Guess the Caption Contest #15: 4-6-05

Postby Pupkin on Tue Apr 05, 2005 11:41 pm

When you vote for "Pupkin" on buzzcomix.net you see a preview of a future "Pupkin" comic, which shows the full art, but without the text at the bottom. I change the preview every time there's a new "Pupkin" strip (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), and you can guess the caption and win a prize! You could even win $1 million. But you won't.

HOW TO PLAY

Go see the preview strip, then come back to this thread and write your own caption for it!

PRIZES

#1 -- My favorite caption will win an original Pupkin sketch, which I'll mail out to you!

#2 -- If you somehow magically guess the caption exactly as I wrote it, I'll give you $1 million.

#3 -- If I love your caption a crazy ton, I might decide to actually throw out mine and use yours instead for the strip when it appears online! I'll give you full credit as co-writer of the strip in my commentary.

RULES

You have one week to enter the "favorite caption/win a sketch" contest (#1 prize above) before I pick a winner, and for the #2 and #3 prizes you have until I post those strips online of course. The deadline for prize #1 is 11:59 p.m. Mountain time on Tuesday, April 12.

-------

Today's preview comic is pretty scary! Pupkin's getting poked in the eye by a giant bully! And the real caption is complete insanity -- a very old fashioned line from the first book in the "Chronicles of Narnia" series.

UPDATE: New image at buzzComix, so this was the one for this contest . . .

'The round orange dog sure was tired of hairy, unwashed internet geeks, who had read his comic strip, and thought it hilarious to re-enact their favorite scene, by poking him in the eye."

I'm going to look at The Magician's Nephew before I answer this. Coincidentally, my nephew has a copy. If only I was a magician!

Ha, cool. I wonder if you can find it. I'll give you a couple small hints -- it's a one sentence quote and it's from an early chapter.

Oh, I missed that completely.

Guess: "It was dreadfully unlike anything a grown-up would be expected to do."

Ha, good guess! But wrong! Big hint: it's a quote from Digory.

No, try again! Bigger hint: It's one sentence/paragraph long, but it's attributed in the middle of the sentence, and I copied it word for word except I replaced "said Digory" with "thought the round orange dog." And it's somewhere between pages 8 and 37!

Ha, you got it! Here's your million dollars! I love that line. Oh, but you messed it up a bit. The end should read "punch your head," not "punch you in the head" -- that's one of the main reasons I love that line, because it's crazy how he says "punch your head"! Did you screw that up or do you have a different version of the book than I do?

J wins with "Unfortunately for the round orange dog, the homeless man had made a bet that America would have a blind dog for its president within the next ten years and he planned on getting paid."

And I'm not sure if you won this month or not or if I made a sketch for you or forgot to or whatever, and I don't care enough to look it up!
