Okay, so Gav finally let us know who Linus was named after...

Personally I thought it was Torvalds, as with the Linux/Penguin connection...

Yeah; I totally figured it was Torvalds. A nice way to nod to the kernel creator.

In fact, when I saw "Linus" as the penguin's name, I giggle-groaned.

What a weirdly timed reply. Exactly one year later!

The name was meant to evoke all those comparisons (Van Pelt, Torvalds, Pauling...) You can imagine Gav pronounces it "Lie-nus" while Danny or Aamu says "Lee-nus." You could say the "right" namesake is Van Pelt because Gav "named" him, but if you go back to the origins, you'll see that Gav claims Linus told him his name:

Of course, Linus doesn't talk...

I'll leave it at that.
