Contraction alert!

Postby damp_dave on Wed Feb 06, 2008 7:36 am

"The joke's under you."

I guess Danny will use a contraction if it's for a good enough reason--like making the number of syllables come out correctly...

Perhaps a small change could work?
"The joke, under you."
"Joke is under you."

Or maybe something else... ??

For a haiku or other poetry, think contractions are allowed. Heck, music lyrics make up their own words.

I didn't even catch that it was a haiku until I read this thread.

Yeah but nobody reads the news because that would be logical.

Anyway, Danny CAN use contractions he simply opts to not use contractions in normal speech.

Seems it dose not effect his use of contractions otherwise.
Such as "too short" file description fields.

Actually, it's not so much that he "chooses not to" use contractions--it's that they aren't natural to him. His normal speech is contractionless (except sometimes in times of duress). I won't get into the psychology behind this because otherwise you'd have nothing to conjecture upon.

Er... "Upon which to conjecture."

However, he has been shown to be "practicing" contractions once... Badly... He, of course, knows their use, but again, they are not "natural" to him. He doesn't actively avoid them. Well, at least he didn't used to. Again, I won't get into that.

So when he *writes* something down and *recites* it, it's pre-prepared (uh?), and he may opt to consciously use a contraction in that case if it's suitable. Ask him to recite that haiku from memory and he'd probably screw it up. ;)

Danny was created in a lab (At Berkly) and isn't a student but a creation.

GAV dose not know this.

And somebody is probably miffed that GAV gets more use out of Danny than Danny's creator.
