Hmm - lost this the first time. Maybe it will go through, so I'll skip my attempts at humour and focus on the important part.

quote:
originally posted by Josh Phillips:Hm... we talking about nzero's Alison & Helene Clamp fanart? ;-) As I recall, Alison was the winged one there...

My mistake. My comments will sound rather less than impressive beside all this in-depth analysis but here goes anyway:
(looks at panel two) "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww!"
Thanks for that Hel

I've only seen like 9 eps (They air it on NBC4 in LA. After Conan, I believe) when I've gone home for break. Though I personally can't discern much based on the smidgen of her torso that I can see.
Though I am wondering about Joe's comment. How would Alan be able to be an "and Doug".
Personally I'm thinking that Alison will be wearing something uncharacteristically cute. If just for the ironic value of the costume. Alison as a muppet... man I'd fall out of my chair if I saw that.
-----

Based on the reference to Dave Thomas(the comedian, not the Wendy's owner[for those of us 'Mericans]) I'd assume it's a reference to the Canadian characters that were portrayed on SC TV. Though a lot of it was really bad, there were a surprising number of really good comedians on the show.

Of course, if Alison is still hung up on finding her Jungian whatsis, she might come out as Ultra-Tramp.
*Pause*
Okay, someone with talent needs to go over to the current Avapr0n thread and draw that....

(People refuse to believe that there can be two guys named Bob and Doug sharing an apartment and having no beer in the fridge.)
SCTV had some very disappointing parts (some characters simply didn't work well at all), but I enjoyed certain moments - the CCCP1 episodes (3CP1 - Russian television), Chariots of Eggs, Geddy Lee revealing his secret, the Fantasy Island parody...
And as was pointed out, it had a great cast. John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'hara, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis (early episodes), and others whose names I can't remember. (I only remember that two of them were regulars with Joe Flaherty on Maniac Mansion.)
Oh, yeah - and Count Floyd! Come on, for a sad sketch, it was priceless. Dr. Tong's 3D House of Pancakes, Slinky - The Toy from Hell, the Bergman film parodies...
I miss that show.

Trying to veer back towards topic - any idea why the heading for these comics is so many days off all the time? Today it refers to the comic on Monday, October 29th.
And what do you have planned for us on Guy Fawkes day, Mr. Phillips?

Shatteredtower: Josh is making up for lost time. He was on involuntary hiatus there for awhile (check out this past Sunday's guest-strip). As a result, there was close to a two-week "dead space" in the archive. Rather than just skip it, Mr. Phillips is graciously and honorably going back and filling in the gap, and has almost caught up with himself.
And Helene is positively adorable. Hopefully, the fact that she didn't try to match Alan is a sign of growing independence.

Perhaps the angel wings symbolize that her so-so-cuteness, while engaging, keeps her at a distance from her friends?
The angel wings also conceal Phoebe. Is she wearing a costume? Or is she doing Halloween vicariously (her statement in 3.31.4, where she's telling Helene how to move about in her costume, might imply she had some influence on that costume).

quote:

once again, I'm trying to guide this into a Helene story, probably stay focused on Alison by the looks of it at the moment (Ceilidh's slightly worried look at the mention of her name etc)

I see other interpretations, though. Maybe the worried look is toward Helene trying to get through the door (which we begin to get in panel III, with the "ow!"). Or maybe she's worried because Alison's costume really freaked her out. (Maybe Allison's in the back putting on sideburns and an Australian accent, eh?)
Hmm. I just noticed, Joe's comment isn't "Alison here yet," it's "Alison ready yet?" Is her costume something both Joe and Ceilidh know is taking a long time?
