After two and a half months, countless hours at the piano that I should have spent trying to understand my maths lecture notes, battles with both writer's block and writer's flood, nine pieces of music, sixty pieces of twelve-stave A4 manuscript paper, and 1186 bars, I have finished "Souvenirs d'Avalon"!! (Since that seemed to be the favoured title, that's what I'm calling it.)
The suite as it stands is about forty minutes long and still needs some revision, but I plan to tackle that as I practise to make the recordings. When the pieces will be recorded and "published" I can't guess, but hopefully within the next few weeks. Possibly by the second anniversary of The Comic? If I'm very lucky, it may happen.
The important thing, though, is that the most difficult bit is over!! I've finished writing the pieces!!
K.A.H.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your terrific accomplishment. I know the rest of the community cannot wait to get their hands on the finished piece.

(Long post ahead. Don't say I didn't warn you. )
First of all, a sincere thank you to everyone who voiced their support for the project, be it before I actually put pencil to paper for the first time, while I was writing and wondering whether or not interest had subsided, and also now that the writing phase is, at last, over.
And now, to answer gwalla's question. Hee hee hee....
As the suite stands now, how would I describe it, you ask? Well, this afternoon, I played the suite from start to finish for the first time (with a short break to move a load of washing from the washing machine to the tumble dryer). I'm more pleased with the results than I thought I would be, and even more pleased to announce that it probably won't need as much revision work as I thought it might when I announced the completion last night. Oh, it needs a bit of work, but nothing substantial - just a few phrases changed to sound less awkward, that sort of thing.
As for the individual pieces - and I apologise profusely to people who do not understand the musical terminology, I hope you at least understand enough of what follows to have an idea of what to expect:
Ouverture. This piece is only 1'30" long, it's just a short introduction to the suite written around a visual joke. (Consul, you'll see what I mean when you get the manuscript. ) The key is A major - and why not, since Avalon starts with an A?
1. Caprice. Coolness! And congratulations. I know how hard it can be to write music.
Anyway, on to phase two... The production!
I will send you an email with my physical address. What I'll absolutely need is a copy of the manuscript. Xerox will be fine, as I will probably copy the score into a software package anyway, to get a high-quality printout (I'll send you the files when I'm done with that).
What would be nice, is a recording, of whatever quality, that will give me a good indication of how you want it to sound. It would probably be best to send these out at the same time. If you plan to record it via computer and post as mp3s, that will work, too.
Then, the hard part begins... And that's what I look most forward to.

What composers I felt influenced by and what style I think the music falls under? Vell, vhy didn't you zay zo?
Again, the answer is different for each piece, so I'll take each one in turn.
Ouverture. There's no real influence here, as I said before this kind of grew out of a visual joke. I suppose it's rather Schumannesque in a way - think of a piece from one of his many suites of short pieces, such as "Kinderscenen" or "Carnaval".
1. Caprice. (Hel

Just a small addendum - I've converted the eight existing recordings to MP3 format, 56Kb/s (or, since there are eight bits in a byte, 7K). This means the suite, all told, will be about 17.5MB. I can make the files smaller - I could easily reduce the suite to as little as 10MB - but there is a noticeable drop in the sound quality. Having said that, there's a drop converting from WAV to MP3, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.
So, does anyone have between ten and twenty megs of web space to spare, or know where I could find it? Once I've recorded the finale, I just need to find a home for these on the web and they'll be available for the masses. I'll probably be able to record the finale on Sunday, Monday at the latest, so with a bit of luck I could make it a contribution to the second anniversary celebration....
K.A.H.
