The Meryl Streep movie is a dramatisation of the Azaria Chamberlain case in the Northern Territory. Dingos do eat babies. A young boy was killed by dingos on Fraser Island in Queensland a few months ago.<P>You remember the Ben Folds Five? Ben Folds has married an Australian and the Ben Folds Five are no more. Ben is touring Australia and the posters claim "dingos ate my band!"

I know this is outdated, but do ya'll remember when Alison said, "What's the matter, Dingo eat your baby?" or something to that affect?<P>Well, it never made much sense to me, until yesterday.<P>It was a reference to that Maryl Street (spelling?) moveie: "A Cry in the Night"
where the most famous line is a sobbing Maryle Street saying...you guessed it...<P>"A dingo ate my baby, a dingo ate my baby!"<P>Sorry it had just been bugging me, hey Josh, am I totally off base here?<P>------------------

I didn't realize that came from a movie! The kids at my high school used to go around saying that, and somewhere along the way, it got shortened to "Dingo baby", which in turn became a nickname. Unfortunately, I have an accent that (to an untrained ear) sometimes sounds Australian, so I got called that and Foster's a lot.

Well, I knew that dingos did in fact eat babies in real life, if they get the chance. I thought it was Streep on the spelling but I only heard it as a reference. Thanks for the additional input you guys.<P>------------------

One day ended up being Sunday.
But then again, we don't usually get guest comics on Onesdays.

Hey ppls,
why is it that we Aussies are always getting picked on by the rest of the world, if it isnt our accent (which hardly anyone has anymore), its the beer fosters (which again you rarely see in australia), or the Dingo 'ate my baby' incident (which happend i think over 10 years to the best of my knowledge), i mean its not like we bag out canadian women, or american rednecks fully badly.<P>*note: im not telling anyone off me just ranting.

This is a bit out of character for me, but I'm going to try to steer the discussion back to the topic.<P>

I always take all these rumors with a grain of salt, but I've never really heard anything to the contrary.

Pffft!
Australians of any gender don't do the "gentleman" thing. Consult the English cricket team for details. It's also culturally required for us to make fun of everyone, so everyone is allowed (nay, expected!) to make fun of us.

To be honest with you, that aussie women being slut thing, complete crap, thouse servicemen you talk to probably drunkards, and incase you didnt know, Australia is a multicultral country, meaning we dont have just have "fair dinkium" white aussies, we got lebs, chinese (which i belong to), greeks, italians, viets, basically everyone from all over the globe, and we all think of each other as aussies, so i suggest when you pick out aussies, please be a little more specific.
and like i said before, im not having a go at anyone.

and also, i almost find that whole statement almost racist, i mean who are u to tell me that my countrymen are bastards and women are whores looking for "someone" to give them a good time. I suggest the next time you insinuate these things, have proof to back it up.

And who are you to tell me those servicemen are drunkards? They knew Australians and Australian women. You know any Marine officers and fighter pilots?<P>Number 1: I didn't say your women were sluts. I said they ALLEGEDLY preferred Americans to Australians. I also said I didn't know if this was really true. I stated a rumor that I had heard.<P>Number 2: Those Marines, I've known since I was a kid. I'd trust them all with my lives, and one of them is my godfather. They don't just lie about things like this. Maybe things have changed in Australia since then; they were there well over thirty years ago, after all. But I'm willing to at least tenatively believe them, as far as their own experiences go.<P>Number 3: How the hell is this racist? I stated a rumor I had heard, which I said I took with a grain of salt. And the Aussies I was referring to are caucasians; how can I be racist against other caucasians?? It's impossible! <P>Number 4: Blanket attacks like that only justify you getting picked on, you know. I have a lot of Australian friends; I know Australia is a multicultural country. That doesn't stop this statement from possibly being true.<P>Number 5: By calling me a racist and calling those Marines drunkards, you *are* "having a go at anyone". I suggest the next time you make a direct claim, that YOU have proof to back it up. I made a statement which I acknowledged was *probably* NOT true. You made a blanket statement accusing friends of mine of something. A little difference there.<P>------------------

Neither do i have the time or the energy now to argue, if you had read my reply carefully you would have noticed that i didnt call you racist or anyone else for that matter.
If you have alot of Australian friends, why the heck would you have believed your "marine" friends, obviously they would have told you a different story.
and im not "blanket" attacking, all i did was ask for you to back up thouse statements.
Now im sorry if i, offended you, but you gotta understand you dont make comments like you did earlier, 1. Without backing it up and 2. Believing in it yourself.
