Is that what happened? Premarital nookie, and then Alan lost interest in her?

Somehow, I don't think so. Helene just doesn't strike me as the type, for some reason. Sure, she flirts, but I get the impression she doesn't even recognize what she's doing - she's a friendly kid who doesn't notice how what she's saying could be taken. And Alan strikes me as a less impulsive version of Joe - a nice guy at heart, who occasionally says the wrong thing. Not the type to take advantage. And because he thinks things through a bit better, not as likely to be caught by the same scenario that got Joe and Ceilidh. I think what gets him so hostile about Helene is the fact that he realizes where things could go, gets scared of his feelings, and starts feeling trapped. Her never backing off would just increase the feeling of being hunted.

I think Alan was attracted to her obvious cuteness, but after a week or two of insulin shock, decided he couln't handle it. No more, no less.

Joe says something like "You should tell her there is no hope." and Alan says something like "What, and hurt her feelings?" (As you can see, I'm too lazy to look things up)
Protecting people from the truth is a dangerous business...
------------------

It's just that, most guys (that I know, at least) say that when a virgin girl is "broken in" she tends to become absurdly clingy until told to run off.
Being someone who has never had that happen to him, however, there's no way for me to test to see if that's true. And even if I could, that would be really, really cruel.
And I'm not saying that Alan's goal was to score, just when people are young, one thing often leads to another. Why do you think there are so many teenage parents these days?
