Let's just hope she can understand what Joe is trying to say because otherwise this could get pretty ugly.
But we never know what Josh might do next time so we can only suppose different solutions.
Now to wait in agony for another 24 hours

Wow, go Joe! He said what Ceilidh needed to hear. How she takes, well, only the following days will tell.
I think he handled it well. The only way to salvage anything between them, IMHO, is to be honest.
Wow, Josh, this keeps getting better and better.
------------------

Notice at no time do his eyes drop to her Magic Nipples. ***THAT'S*** concentration.
Reminds me of the Dirty Vicar sketch in Monty Python, where the Vicar drops his eyes to a woman's breats and goes berserk.

well, I'm busy setting up my computer to do the checking, and to page me when the page is updated, so I can go curl up in the corner in the fetal position until this is over.
Josh, I love your work! Damn you!!!

Naw.. he's just got more important issues on his mind at the moment.. the reality is.. he is most likely trying to not do that, to not tense up the mood even more. Though if the subject matter becomes ligher, I'd think he'd have to take a peek.

Hehe if things go bad after this and he is just toying with us (like normal) then we will just wait above Josh's house with a vat of tar and poor it on him as he leaves for work. Then it will be beatdown city with feather pillows... or we can just hang him either way works with me.

Well, I'm glad Joe is being so diplomatic about this. He said probably the best thing he could have. He had me scared for a bit there anyways, I'm anxious to see how Ceilidh will react and if Joe will break it off now. Though I certainly hope he doesnt.

Well, at least Josh hasn't tortured us even more with a scene change. *realizes what he suggested and waits to be pummeled into silence*
I think my new sig. is more appropriate with the current storyline.

Hum. I'd hesitate to say whether or not my pessimism has been dispelled here. There's no denying that Joe is saying the right words (the timing may, as has been pointed out, be a bit off, but perhaps the words he is about to say have no right time) - after all, as has been pointed out in this very forum, Ceilidh may have been a lonely outsider before her family moved to Avalon, but not anymore.
I'd imagine the "*whimper*" is merely an expression of how emotionally tense she is at the moment rather than an indication that what Joe is saying will devastate her. Of course, because she is emotionally tense, he needs to choose his words carefully or she WILL be devastated. Chances are when Joe finishes saying what he has to say, she'll release this tension one way or another. Whether she does this by bawling on his shoulder or by beating him black and blue will, of course, depend on how well he exercises tact and diplomacy.
Hopefully she'll start by realising how she has misled herself as regards her self-image. Any other points Joe makes in his response to her sudden moves will, I'm sure, be analysed to death as the week wears on, because that appears to be the Way of the Forum.
Maybe he'll just tell her she needs to slow things down. But he may also go one step further and tell her that he doesn't want to enter into a relationship with her because of her misguided image of herself; rather, he would prefer to enter into it because they want to be with each other rather than the one needing someone stable and thinking the other could be that someone.
Admittedly, students at that age seldom have such a mature view, but we've seen evidence many times over that some of the cast members of "Avalon" are, at various times and in various ways, more mature than their peers.
As for how it plays out, well, Our Good Cartoonist has said the comic IS supposed to be funny, so perhaps when Joe has finished saying what he feels he needs to say, for all we know either Joe's eyes could finally wander downwards or Ceilidh could, indeed, throw her arms around him, leaving him with his most priceless "deer in headlights" look thus far.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've wanted to see these two get together since I started reading "Avalon" in February, and I can only hope that somehow Joe can defuse the situation so that they get together for the right reasons. It may happen that they do step back for now after what happens, and in the interim we finally gain as much closure as is standard for this strip on Joe's feelings for Hel

Well, I think Joe's managed to say the right things so far, which is amazing for him - of course whether he can keep it up is another matter, but if he follows his current course, it may all work out...
I don't know why, but I keep expecting someone to burst in to Ceilidh's room at any moment and spoil the whole atmosphere...
---

Yeah.. this is what I said in #avalon , parents, or brother are going to bust in.. or something, but thinking that this is a semi normal house, the knocking before entering idea, might apply. We shall see.
Thanks
------------------
