There is no way Joe can not screw this up. She is not in the right mindset to discuss this rationally. He can tell her to slow down, tell her she's very pretty, tell her to throw on some clothes and go downstairs to neck on the couch in front of the some old romantic movie on the TV. She has thrown herself off to CN Tower without a bungie cord. This can only end bad.
------------------

The way I see it is as follows: Joe got into this predicament himself by not being true to himself. He should have just declined Ceilidh's offer to go steady in the first place then he wouldnt be in this situation right now. I'm sure he could have just explained to her how he feels. He obviously cares a great deal for her (though I do so wish that Ceilidh and Joe could have a more-than-platonic relationship) and he could have explained everything. They could have ended up being the best of friends always there for each other and so on. (I have a friend of the opposite sex not unlike that). It would have been better for him to stop it all before it began and it would have saved Ceilidh much embarassment and heartbreak in the long run, not to mention their friendship.
Now, on the other hand what Ceilidh did was extremely, well, stupid. She just kind of throws herself at Joe right after they started going out, and this doesnt seem all that fair to him. She obviously needs his support very badly, but she could have asked for it with all of her clothes on.
Of course most of this is just pure speculation, and maybe thats not a look of dismay Joe is wearing. Maybe it'll all work out and they will continue seeing each other as boyfriend and girlfriend but I dont really see that happening right now.
