I'll probably make a formal announcement about this on Monday, but I had to unofficially brag right away. ;-)
The Cartoonist's Choice Awards took place over the past month, in which webcomic artists nominated and then voted for their favorite comics in several different categories. I'm pleased (read as: very giddy) to say that Avalon won in *both* of the categories it was nominated for: Best School-Based Comic, and Best Dramatic Comic. Avalon was up against some pretty big comics like CRFH, Clan of the Cats, The Class Menagerie, Minor Reality, Blotto Street, Odd Jobs, Fans, and Wandering Ones.
You can check out the "presentations" for Best School-Based Comic (by Caleb Sevcik, of Zap Jones) and Best Dramatic Comic (by Maboo, of Blotto Street).
So yes, w00t! :-)
JOSH.

Well, I for one was not surprised at all, and even voted for you in both categories, go figure!
Good stuff and congrats for your well-deserved awards, Mr. Phillips -- I'll be sure to let you beat me once or twice at Soulcalibur out of respect for your achievements.

You deserved it - not only does your comic have a killer storyline and characters, but you're involved with your fan community - something many authors of popular webcomics avoid. (Although I'm not saying the authors of your competitors for this award don't.)
And, hey, anything that results in a tide of fanart is fine by me.

------------------

Please. I just wrote probably the longest reply I have ever written, concerning that subject, on that thread. As far as it goes - the final vote tallies were not tampered with. The ONLY time the votes were narrowed down were for nomination purposes, because there were a LOT of one-votes nominees in a couple of categories, and only ONE person with two votes - so they took the ONE person with the highest nomination count, and left it as a category with one person running, instead of having a category of 23, 24 people nominated, simply because they had each gotten on nomination. End of story.
Each cartoonist who recieved an award deserved to recieve it, and there is no reason they should think otherwise. Period.
I'm done now.
------------------

Hah, but next year you will have to contend with the awesome might of my and Mr. Irony's secret project. It will have drama, comedy, school related material, space combat and gratuitous shower scenes! It can't lose! Well, it can, and there's always the offchance it won't even get off the ground, but don't tell me that.
------------------

Congratulations, Josh. It's really great to see that masterfully done Canadian media can still win awards without being upstaged by something built around a stupid flash-in-the-pan catch phrase.

Fantastic news, Josh!
The only teensy bit of disappointment was that they reffered to the strip as "Avalon High", despite the warning in the FAQ. Will the people never learn?
