Not only is Ryan a nice likable boy. But he knows Deedee is lying to him and he has the tact not to force the issue. What a guy!
Woops screwed up folks.
But damn wha a guy. Kicks ass takes names.

I couldn't agree more. (Except that he is thinking about Deirdre, not Phoebe)
------------------

Actually he seems more confused about what Deeds said than I thought he would be. He's also filling in the gaps counterintuitively. Where did he get the idea that the parting was amicable? Didn't he find the fact that Deedee "had" to go just a little suspicious, especially seeing as how she didn't elaborate? So much murk and confusion, and this is still only Wednesday's strip! Egads!
------------------

Eh, I don't think that Ryan really believes the parting was amicable. The way I read it, he is just commenting on what Deirdre is putting before him - comparing her first attitude about the breakup with her current one. She did _try_ acting like the break up was no big deal, which is a direct contrast to her attitude when she first returned to Avalon ("Boy was I wrong," "God I hate my life," etc.) I don't know how much Ryan knows, but we know he caught Deirdre's inconsistancy.
The Bradley family seems to be a pretty dark and frightening corner of the web. When Ryan was relating his story to Ceilidh, he was underestimating the magnitude of Pheobe's problems as far as I can tell. I wonder how much he knows now, and what would happen if Ryan found out everything?
T.W.
[This message has been edited by TW (edited 05-08-2001).]

Personally, I cash in on the "Ryan knows more than he's telling" theory. Perhaps he didn't tell Ceilidh the full story because he didn't want to hurt her, or wanted her to hear it from one of those directly involved... But he definitely knows something. More than is generally assumed, at least.
------------------

BunnyThor: I agree. He's drawing the wrong conclusions. From Deirdre's actions, I'd say she was hurt quite a lot by her breakup with Patrick and she really doesn't want to talk about it.
------------------

I don't think he's drawing the wrong conclusion, just reading in a perfectly plausible set of actions. Deidre's actions are totally consistent with what Ryan's thinking about - I'd wager that he's more considering the possibility that such is the case than accepting it as gospel.
Something that's probably wrong, but slightly interesting to conisder: Ryan's last line, "I was hoping at some point she'd tell me the truth". This can be taken a lot of different ways, but what if you take it to mean that he already KNOWS the truth, and he's waiting for Deidre to admit it? Granted, that is wild speculation, there isn't a huge amount of evidence to support it (though I could probably garner some), and it's something that we've certainly never seen in Ryan before. Moreover, if he does know the truth, why would he be waiting for her to admit it? But, it's a neat idea.
