I agree with lostfactor - while the first season of Slayers may have been slightly subpar, Next and Try were definitely good-quality animation.
------------------

Why bother? Make many Lina Inverse jokes.
She doesn't really look flat-chested... if you look closely at the drawing, you see that it really is just the way the shirt falls around her. It's not hiding TOO much, but she's also not quite that flat.

Besides, as oft-commented-on by Slayers fans, Lina's chest is only flat when compared to other female characters in Slayers. All of which have the classic fantasy proportions. (Those which result in a rather high center of gravity.)

(three cheers for my l33t otaku skillz...)
In the various manga versions of Slayers (the original, SP, etc.) Lina has an absurdly small chest, even in regard to realistic proportions. This also holds true in the novels, which i'm sure Avatar would confirm if he's lurking about somewhere. Still, she's only supposed to be 15.
In the anime, however, the character designs were shot to hell, and Ameria in particular was given a chest that rivals Naga's; likewise, Lina was given sizeable breasts, but every character still made jokes about how small they were regardless. Most assume it's just a design/planning flaw in the series - it's not that well animated to begin with. =]
So how does this relate to the fanart? Um... Ceilidh pretty. Fire bad, tree pretty.
Hope I didn't get any of the facts wrong... probably did anyway. Been a while since I read up on Slayers. =/
CH
------------------

Looking at the few images I've managed to find of the manga, I see you are right about that. I somehow wouldn't be surprised if the anime version screwed up the character designs - isn't that always what happens?
------------------

This part looks to be too steep. The red line on the shirt follows the path it would take. I tried to make it look natural but this was the best I got. It looks kind of off to me...

By reducing the steepness of this line and moving the start of it up on the body just slightly it follows a path that not only looks more natural, but doesn't make Ceilidh look bustier than she really is.
(I'm probably looking like a total perv point this out, but I'm just being observant, dammit!)

As a BIG fan of Slayers, the anime didn't really screw up Lina's proportions that much... she's still noticably flat-chested, and the rest of the cast (Filia included) is noticably more well-endowed. Although she's a little more endowed in the anime, that's understandable - she's a bit older, too. And considering Amelia is supposedly (well, it's not a fact, but almost) Naga's sister, chest size seems to run in the family.
And I don't know where you've getting the "not that well animated" part... the first season was passable, but NEXT and TRY were pretty nicely done (aside from a couple sloppy parts towards the end of TRY). It's not You're Under Arrest! or Vision of Escaflowne, but it's pretty well-done. Though, much like Saber Marionette J, the animation tends to be better in action shots than anything else.

Well , in the OAV , which takes place eariler on and has more flat-chested jokes , she is noticably smaller than the show , and her breasts get larger as latter seasons go on , which makes sense.
As for the art , very well done!
How long has it been since the fanart page has been updated , anyway?

The number 1 difference I noticed bewteen the two pictures was the removal of a finger...
[This message has been edited by Q99 (edited 05-08-2001).]

Okay. Now let us talk about something other than breasts, because this is starting to sound like a thread from the EN board.
