You know, I really tried hard not to like Pheobe. She pushes people away from her, then gets upset when they find someone else. She creates her own self-fullfiling prophecies of male abandonment, then lashes out at the gender when they come true. And after the way she treated Ryan, she deserves to get a taste of her own medicine.
Still...
After today's comic I broke down. The episode with Joe, and the upcoming encounter with R&D, are going to give her more far more grief than she deserves, and I'd have to be inhuman not to feel a pang of sympathy. Things are going to Hell in a handbasket for poor Pheobe, and she's going to be more isolated than ever before. I don't wish her plight on anyone.
T.W.

What I find so sad about Pheobe is that she did used to have a lot of friends, but then got screwed over freshman year. Seeing former friends you parted on bad terms with every day is not fun.

<overanalysis>
It's curious that, for the person who's desperately lonely and craving attention, doesn't just swallow her pride and stop beating around the bush. She seems to want the attention of her friends and, I dare say, their affections. (No, not necessarily that way. You pervs. That confrontation with Joe wouldn't have happened if she didn't really give a damn what Joe thought of her. But she does. Note how when Joe accused her of dumping him for Todd, she doesn't deny it!
What does this all mean? Well, she f*cked up. She left for another guy, got burned. Yes, that sucks, but nursing her anger for over 3 years has only brought her an emotional cancer: it's eating her up from the inside. She should take the initiative. You might ask, 'Well, why doesn't Joe?' Because Joe isn't the one who's lonely. (Or the one making death threats to people who come
close.)
Girl, fess up to your friends. Or at least to Joe. Or to Joe and Ceilidh together. Win them over, and the rest will follow. Friends will forgive.
</overanalysis>
On a lighter note, here's my prediction: She's going to decide to talk to Deirdre about her loneliness after all. She'll head over to Tim Horton's and find Deirdre and Ryan practicing their french. A little... tete-a-tete, if you will. She'll be completely blown away and they, embarrassed, try to explain and then... Ryan(!) comes to
the rescue and makes it all better with everyone.
------------------

The question of why poor Pheobe doesn't go to her ex-friends because she's lonely.
It seems to me that she blew off all her friends to be with Todd and then got hurt really badly. That sort of thing doesn't just leave you hurt and lonely but makes you ashamed too. She had to get over Todd and whatever he did to her without help from her 'friends' because they were still angry at her for dumping them. The result is that she ends up not only angry at Todd for whatever he did but angry at her friends for not supporting her and angry at herself for dumping them in the first place.
It's hard to ask for friendship back when a) you feel your friends abandoned you and b) you don't feel that you deserve it.
Anyway, my predictions:
Pheobe goes to Ryan's house to talk with him.(Because Ryan wasn't directly involved in what happened and Ceilidh is too close to Joe.)
Ryan's mum tells her he's gone to Tim Hortons.
She visits Tim Hortons and sees Ryan and Deirdre kiss and make up after having a row about the 'just a friend' thing.
She runs off without being noticed by either Ryan or Deirdre.
She goes towards Ceilidh's house but in her emotional state picks the wrong one and ends up at her neihbours.
Joe answers the door.
On seeing him she breaks down into tears and hugs him for support.
Enter Ceilidh.
Twisty enough?
Pimple.
