No theme outside of "Canadian", but this team *is* an official arm of the Canadian Gov't, and as such is PR as much as anything else; the names would probably A) avoid anything overtly militaristic or "dangerous" sounding unless it's really patriotic to do so, and B) If at all possible, sound "appropriate" for a superhuman Canadian team. For example, an Usan team might have Minuteman, Patriot, Eagle, Liberty, and so on. I'm aiming for interesting and/or melodramatic over realism and believability (No *real* Usan superhero team would get such stupid names).
------------------

Don't forget that Wolverine was a Canadian superhero!
Names like Sasquatch and Wendigo come to mind immediately when you think of Canada... Native American(as in the continent) names do as well. And native American creatures, as well; I mean, Badger would be a pretty cool name to have. Those things are *vicious*.

------------------

Ah, a government-created superhero team. I can see the parliamentary inquiry now.. :P
Putting aside the fact that nothing could possibly be cooler than Captain Canuck and his sidekick, Kebec, it's really hard to come up with anything that wouldn't be really silly. Except Ogopogo. Or an all-out rip-off of the X-Men (Blizzard, Badger, Professor Zed, Deb Grey, etc.)...
Canadians typically don't dwell on symbols, prefering to save up their patriotic fervour for hockey games and beer commercials, as well as abstract things like universal health care. (Universal Health Care Man!)
On the other hand, let us not forget Mr Canoehead, Canada's Greatest Aluminum Crime Fighter.

Captian Canuck... is a cherished icon?
*Picks up red phone*
Break off the invasion plans! Now, dammit! I don't have time to explain, just trust me! We don't *want* Canada, not if it means having to rule a country that worships Captain Canuck! (Pause) yes, Captain Canuck. No, really. That's what he's called. (Pause) Dammit, I'm not kidding I'm - *click*
Bastards hung up on me.
Oh well. Semi-related question: Exactly what role does the RCMP actually play? Is it comperable to our FBI, ie, a law-enforcement organization that's aimed at interprovincial and nationwide crime and leaves the local stuff to the locals?
------------------

Cool!
Yes and no. The RCMP are kind of like the FBI in that they handle interprovincial cases and things specific to federal law. But the similarity ends about there. In provices and territories that don't have provincial police forces (ie, not Ontario or Quebec), the RCMP have juristiction over provincial law. Kind of like State Troopers. And in some cases, where there's no local police and agreements have been made, the RCMP have municpal jurisdiction as well.
http://www.rcmp.gc.ca/about/index_e.htm
The RCMP also have a ceremonial role, of course. Probably because Canadians feel better seeing Mounties standing (or riding) around than soldiers.
[This message has been edited by flying squirrel (edited 04-26-2001).]

Corny names and secret identities don't seem Canadian to me. Why not just use their "real" names? Having to deal wih everyone knowing who they are could make the roleplaying interestingly different from the standard secret identitied heros.
------------------

I'm putting together a pen-and-paper superhero RPG campaign, and I decided to work in a Canadian government-sponsered team. The problem is that I can't come up with any half-decent names for the team or the individuals. They consist of: Male, powers not decided on yet but probably some kind of energy projection, leader. Female, uses a bow somehow - probably charging it up a la Gambit. Male, brute-force guy. Any suggestions from Canadian people? It's relatively easy to name an American hero - names like Eagle are obvious. But I am *not* having a superhero called The Beaver.
------------------
