Hey! Keenspot Tastemakers!

When are you going to add El Goonish Shive to Keenspot? Dan's art maybe reminiscent of first-year Sluggy, but he's also got that first-year Sluggy energy and insanity while still writing real stories with real characters that the readers care about.

With It's Walky and Avalon drawing to a close, this comic would fit nicely into both the young superhero slot and the high school soap opera slot left in their wake.

Remember that's http://www.elgoonishshive.com/index.php on your FM dial!

We invited EL GOONISH SHIVE and Dan gladly accepted. Look for it on Keenspot proper soon.

Looks like Fans will be moving down the road as well.

Ah well, it never caught my attention enough for me to worry about it anyway.

Looks like it. I'm a little concerned. I wasn't that put off by the fact that T was putting Rip & Teri on GS, since it was only one comic and was originally supposed to be on AdventureStrips anyway. And he's only helping out with dialogue occasionally on The Guardians. But moving another one of his comics to the site he's editing seems...iffy.

It's less iffy than you'd think. In reality, he wants to show that he's throwing his full support behind GraphicSmash, such is his confidence in its success.

Also, given, he wanted to make a profit. ;)

Just the facts, Fans

Postby Chris Crosby on Tue Sep 02, 2003 9:56 pm

It should probably be noted that (as far as I know) FANS! will be profitable on Keenspot as of the 2nd Quarter 2003 income disbursement in October, and WOULD'VE been profitable in Q1 2003 if not for the much weaker ad revenue in 2001-02, which put it in the hole. In 2003, ad revenues have greatly increased while average bandwidth costs have lowered, which means that even very high-bandwidth-per-page should be profitable for the forseeable future.

Having a high-bandwidth-per-page site does NOT immediately equal unprofitability on Keenspot, generally.

The difference between a high-bandwidth site and a high-bandwidth-per-page site should also be noted. Being high-bandwidth is great because it usually means you're popular and you're generating high revenues. Being high-bandwidth-PER-PAGE is not quite as great, because if the bandwidh on a page costs more than the revenue generated by the ad on that page, that's unprofitable. The good news is that ad revenue increasing and bandwidth costs lowering means that even pages with big giant colorful 150K file size comics on them can be profitable.

So, where does one go to find out who makes the cut, and when they will be 'Spotted, and such?

And on an unrelated question, I know it's just not a high priority to change what is on the drop-down menu thingie, but it's a big mess. [Goes to check.] Okay, it's not as big of a mess as it once was, but seeing "Cool Cat Studio" hanging around for 2 years after the comic discontinued is a bit creepy. I think the chances of CCS coming "off of hiatus" are only slightly better than the chances of the triumphant return of "Life at Bayside" or an all-Gonterman Guest Artist week at PVP.

There, I've used up my kvetching quota for the month. Carry on all...

Zebra Girl? El Goonish Shive? And, judging by a newspost on BmB, Boy Meets Boy?

It appears to me that Keenspot added a very good selection of comics this batch.

Either artists of said comics brag about it, Chris/Gav/Teri/Nate drop a hint in the forums, or Newsbox.

I found out about Zebra Girl being spotted by the VERY SUBTLE HINTS that joe dropped here and there.

We don't generally announce new strips to the masses until they've been moved over to our server. But that may change.

Well, I'd announce new strips after your got their contracts in the mail and they were confirmed. Announcing just invites would be pointless. But I think it's the former that you had in mind. It has the benefit of hyping up the new feature to build anticipation. Of course, if you hype AFTER they're on the server, you get the benefit of all the new pageviews coming in FROM the hype.

So technically, your old way was more profitable than announcing comics in advance. But the new way is probably what more people want.
