It looks like he was right first time about his parentage. Maybe there was a second evil Xubuxxian self hidden inside him, and that bang on the head and the breaking of the sacred cue allowed it to seize the controls. Hopefully something will happen to let the true Carlin get the upper hand again.

i always figure fiona is basically good (although she is more than willing to give bruno a hard time). she's sort of bruno's conscience - occasionally confused, often more pestiferous than one would like, but trying to keep things on the right track. if _she_ turned totally evil, i would be seriously disturbed.

although i wouldn't expect this type of physical transformation - carlin is really weirding me out now.

on the bright side - he _does_ seem to be drawing a lot of new people into the forum. maybe we're still in 'envy' after all?

but bruno is showing us a new face of greed - to raise his status to demi-god.......so maybe he has to defeat carlin some other way? something that won't win him fame and fortune?

I'm gonna subscribe to the "Carlin is possessed" theory. It's just too radical of a character shift to explain otherwise.

I suppose the most disturbing thing about it is the suggestion that the Carlin we thought we knew never really "existed". :(

I don't know what's weirder - Carlin being evil, or Bruno being heroic.
Okay, I lied. Bruno being heroic isn't that weird.
Also...Kinda fitting that the son of Xubbux gets defeated by the descendant of Ailix.

I believe that Fogel had something with the "I love you father", bit. Carlin's mild reaction in the last panel suggests to me more that Bruno goofed-with-his-bast-attempt-at-best-intentions-for-his-own-self-promotion, yet again.

Ian tends to make real evil scream a lot when thwarted...

...time to hope that Ailix saves?

I think that Carlin was going to throw Bruno's crown in the abyss as was originally intended. Too late now.

ooo -- good theory! but fiona is still around - maybe _she'll_ think to throw the crown in....or maybe the stones (being made by ailix) have healing powers - and they'll heal carlin and _then_ throw the crown in? or maybe it's only carlin's evil avatar that's killed (it sure doesn't _look_ like the usual carlin), and when xu'buxx is thwarted, carlin will be returned (whole) to his regular body!

of course, bruno's ancestor keeps coming around - just 'cause carlin's dead, doesn't mean he's gone......(she says, grasping rapidly at straws)

maybe....although we still don't have a total # of strips, which leads me to believe we still have a ways to go (or that ian is playing with my head by deliberately not posting the total, to keep me worrying...this evil stuff is contagious!). and carlin just _looks_ so _evil_ - it's hard to believe he's thinking good thoughts under all that....still, he is a man of strong character....and now we have to wait till friday. *sob*.

I see two possible explanations:

:D Carlin's a good guy, and transformed simply to trick his father into opening the abyss. Yay!
 Carlin's a bad guy, and transformed in order to trick his father into opening the abyss, then sealing off his father from that world forever so that he'd have no competition for his own evil conquest. Boo!

I'm hoping for :D, just because Carlin is too nifty to be evil.

yay! carlin was good all along! our good old carlin is still with us! *caper* *caper*

Major Tom wrote:mouse-- is it maybe your turn for vacation next?

nono - just my usual manic-depressive cycle.

why - are you trying to get rid of me? that's it! you all hate me! *sob*

but carlin is ok! *caper* *caper*

*pant*pant*pant*

you know, these moods swings are getting a bit tiring.....

so now we are left with the question: was bruno's greed for the crown? or the microwave oven?

Only worse. "Something happened to Zoe" only involved three strips, and they were daily. Ian, however, has left us wondering for two weeks. (Although it would've only been one if he was still on the six days a week schedule.) This just proves that Ian is much more evil than Pete. =P

even with the jewels, I think the crown was still just a tool -- that lead to fame and/or the microwave...

...I want to know if he passed or failed, though -- I mean, Bruno didn't actually cast the crown into the abyss, himself...

Well, he'd declared his readiness to do so. Anyway, the act had lost its moral meaning through the loophole. And six out of seven is pretty good going - after all, we're talking about Bruno here.

So, first, I whole-heartedly agree -- I've been well impressed with our boy since he slogged through the muck. He's tripping along famously.

But, did Bruno retract his willingness when he caught on about the jewels? He sure was hopped up when he thought he had the chance to peg a demon, even though the abyss-thing wasn't panning out (I mean, a microwave)...
