Aha! Hildegarde does know about Jim and Melissa. And Melissa knows that she knows. Or at least it sure looks that way from Melissa's response.

At least Alison's not the religious type. I'd hate to see her say something like, "Hi, I'm Alison, daughter of <blank> and <blank>. God sent me."

Eh... maybe it's a good thing she may not have seen Babylon 5 either. She'd make a kickass Ivanova, but she still scares me. :D

Not necissarily, Melissa may just think Gar sent them not knowing that the entire meeting was because of Alison recognizing the name of her cafe.

OK, I was wrong. Alison <i>did</i> recognize James Page as James Page. I guess Hildegarde showed her a picture of her husband before she and Erin set out - makes more sense this way, now that I think of it...

Talk about role models! Alison certainly takes after Hildegarde, if this strip and the victims response is anything to go by. I'm confident that Alison can supply her own steam, though. She is about to give a performance that will scar Erin for life!

As for commenting on Melissas response, I'll draw on my m4d |33+ quote supply: A guilty conscience never feels secure - Publius Syrus. I don't think she is going to put up much of a fight.

And it is finally time for Mr. James 'Rorschach Blot' Page to assume a concrete shape. But I honestly have no idea what it will be, just as I have no idea what Joe will say to Ceilidh about their 'relationship'. I just hope Joe and James are both through with dodging.

[Edit: and I really should pay better attention to previous threads. Yay me.]

You just reminded me of how much Mr. Page looks like a psychologist I once had. Heh.

Now that we know that Alison and Erin have encountered Joe's father and aunt, let us open the floor to wild speculation about Monday.

-- Does Mr. Page dream of Gar, Mel, and Erin together?
-- Is the Joe/Ceilidh relationship Odepital? (sp, but you know what I mean)
-- Does Alison really want Mr. Page for herself?
-- Has Jerry Springer come to Avalon?
-- Is Mel the true reason for the troubles besetting Avalon?
-- Would I look good in lederhosen?

Let's find out!

----------------

By the way, was just checking out the cast page for no reason other than something to read. Now that we have a confirmation on what Mr. Page looks like, we need a color bust of him for the cast page, just like everyone else has.

But where are we going to get lederhosen on such short notice? And will they have bratwurst and flavor bars?

Boom-diddly-oom! Lay down the law, Ali!

I agree with Hai-Etlik and Klaus: Melissa's response is more indicator of a guilty conscience than evidence of a past confrontation. Although it's definitely an indicator of future ones. : )

I really pity Erin at this point. Going across the country to find your lover, only find him in this particular situation... yow. Then again, she is something of a bubblehead, so my sympathy is muted. Too bad, though, because she was really cute...

wait a second.

Oh, no. Oh, NO.

I just noticed the correlation between James and Erin, and Joe and H

My good sir, a duel should not be conducted here, in a public place like "16 Aug 2002", risking the well-being of unsuspecting bystanders. Chose your second, and meet me in a proper thread at a later time, if we are to settle this like gentlemen.

Wonderful. Now that that's settled...

Back on topic, now. Now that we've had the big revelation, next week should likely flip back to Joe and Ceilidh. Which is good, I guess, but I'm still interested in finding out more about Melissa later on. This cold sistah is a real piece of work.

Wouldn't that make it a triel?

I dunno about the lederhosen, Coldacid. You'd better get a pair or two and try. Take photos.

Ya know, something about today's strip just made me laugh... it's just so much less panickedly dramatic than it could have been.

Anyway, of course Hildegarde knew about James and Melissa -- she explained to Josh that James was only with her "because he couldn't have the one he really wanted." Which may also explain part of the mysterious failure of Melissa's earlier restaurant/catering project (as if her dubious business sense wasn't enough... that thing looked like a front for a heroin shipment ring more than a catering business).

So James loves(/has a crush on/has PSL for) Melissa, but for some reason can't have her; he marries Hildegarde instead, then finally gives up on that and runs off with Erin. The Erin fantasy breaks down, apparently at a time when Melissa was available; perhaps that triggered it? So he goes back to her.

All of which still doesn't explain what he was doing as Inconsiderate Smoking Man in Gar's cafe, though.

Whee! There's something remarkably relaxing about drama that doesn't happen in one's own life. :)

Alison wearing dark glasses and speaking in a nasal voice: "I'm on a mission from God."

(...and then about twenty police cars pull in out front, so Alison and Erin grab James and quickly drag him out back to make their escape...)

(ok, this is getting silly)

Josh "Sticky-fies" threads related to the current strip. When the next strip rolls around, he "Un-Sticky-fies" these threads. Then threads about the new strip will be "Sticky-fied."
I have severe doubts that stickify is a word.

Okay, in response to Hai-Etlik, Klaus, and Dent, I concede that Melissa's response isn't necessarily evidence that Hildegarde knows about her and James. The "guilty concience factor" is a very valid point. However, I stand by my theory that she does indeed know, for the original reasons that I stated in the August 15th thread (I'd link to it, but I cant figure out how to link to a specific post). If pressed, I'll even admit that those reasons are a little thin, but I tend to trust my hunches. I guess time will tell... :)

Oh, and Gigafreak ... if it wasn't a word before, it is one now.
