Anyone else here watching Hellsing?
I celebrated writing a marketing exam by watching ep3-6

If you haven't seen it it's about a female vampire in the british anti vampire swat team.
She is the only swat member ever to wear a uniform with a *very* short skirt
*She is very cute*

She is also armed with a "30mm FREAK Cannon".

Funny how the Japanes uses European environments and religion. (Noir, Evangelion, Hellsing...)

No Spoilers in this thread!

Yeah, I've seen up to episode 9, since the episodes I downloaded after that had no subs. .
So far it's really cool, lots of style and good action. I even wrote "Jesus Christ is in HELL" on the side of my good headphones because of that series.

It does make a bit more sense than that.

Besides, she was made a vampire by another member of the Anti-Vampire organisation. We're still unsure as to why he's working for them though.

I just read Mangas 1-6, it seems like Integral has a totally different personality in the mangas than in the OAV. I think I like her in the mangas better.

Well crap. For grins, I decided to download the first anime. The download is now stuck on 176MB out of 177MB.

I hate the internet.

EDIT: okay, the download finished, and I checked it out. The whole thing basically didn't make any sense to me, but I thought it was cool. So I guess I'm hooked now.

Looking for the manga here would be an act of futility - we don't have any in the UK.

Hell, our anime level is hovering somewhere around 'diddly squat'.

For those in countries where you can't buy manga - http://www.mangaproject.cjb.net has a fan-translated version of the first book and a half of the manga.

What I'm missing from the anime the most is the humour... It was always generally dark, but there was always a vein of black comedy running through it.

I got NO comic shop.. Within about 100 miles....

The only manga you can get is the most ultra-mainstream stuff from http://www.amazon.co.uk.

The only anime we can get.. Hyper-expensive, subtitled, VHS, very limited range. No DVD's, no subtitles, no good stuff, either.

Ah well - back on the subject... Excel Saga is l33t *grins*

A bump and a question...

I'm on Hellsing episode 6 now.. And what's with the 'bleeping-out' on some of the swearing? It seems to only happen half of the time, and it's fully translated in the subtitles.... Is it this particular rip/translation?

I noticed the first few episodes are by a group called Soldats - these later episodes are by another bunch. Any thoughts/info?

I have all my ep's from same group.

I found the beeps funny actually.
One theory is that Japanese lack some english words. Or that the Japanese version of these words are not so colorfull. A dialog going I'm gonna BEEP BEEP BEEP that BEEP BEEP and BEEP! Well you get the point this is no nice words.

And my second and most likley theory:
It's just humor!

Actually, an awful lot of Anime here is Dubbed, rather than Subbed.

But a load of us UK-Anime-types tend to import VHS and DVD. Well, mainly DVD these days, but there are places that import VHS.

And, yes, Excel Saga rocks. I know I'll be importing it come Summer.

Oh man oh man.

I just saw eps 5 and 6 last night, and it was totally the greatest television experience ever. I am now beyond hooked.

I figured it was being "bleeped" for two reasons:

1) The show actually seems pretty 'conservative' with regards to foul language, gore, nudity.

2) It was funny.

The translated subtitles I saw alternated between actual profanity and @#$%!! stuff. go figure.

Well, the episode 6 I have here has all the swearing fully translated, and seemingly only half of it beeped out...

Strange.

Either way, the only changes between the original manga would seem to be that Integral has gone from more than slightly busty to flat chested (a very noticable change of drawing style - otherwise I wouldn't comment), she's lost a lot of her attitude, and a lot of the general humour from the manga has been lost.

Apart from those, it's a fairly accurate adaptation. Possibly a little lighter on the blood, but not much.

Yeah, she is drawn rather flat chested most of the time in the OAV. It's so odd though, in episode 9 when a vampire starts taking her clothes off, she is shown to be rather busty. Sorta like "WHOA! Where did THOSE come from?"

Oh man, now I'm looking forward to ep 9

But seriously, I think portraying Lady Integral Wingates Hellsing (I get that right?) as a flat-chested hardcase is pretty effective.

Time to ask my anime-n00b questions:

- So, like, these episodes are just translated informally by fans?

- "Sergeant Celas Victoria"... Which is her given name?

Just saw episode 7 - sw33tn3ss! They seem to be jumping between chapters of the manga, as this episode had all the bits missing from the 'sword dancer' chapter of volume 1.

Yeah, they're definately jumping around, I just saw glanced at ep10, and it looks like its an earlier part of the manga.

Since I just saw episode 9, Rupert, I gotta agree with your comment about the de-blousing: HOLY COW! I'd hate to see what one of the apparantly bustier characters (like Victoria) looked like getting licked by a Vampire.

Hey wait... I wouldn't hate that. I'd extremely not hate that.

My big problem now is that the ep10 I downloaded is ALL IN JAPANESE! DAMN YOU INTERNET!!!

I'll live, I think.
