World Map for EI?

The noble Order of the Knights of Jubal traces its origins back to the Year Two Thousand A.D., when a group of distinguished persons of good and true character, founded the order to promote chivalry and honour. The order takes its name from our leader, Alexander Jubal McRae, who on two (so far) occasions has been seriously injured, in one case fatally, defending an innocent woman from attackers.

It's amazing what we all can do when we put our minds to something. Personally, I think that we should use a Topo Map for the main part and Polit Maps for the blowups or links however it works out.
Secondly, we need to make sure that all info is correct, all CI are with the correct color, all KI and so on. I think Zabet mislabled me in MI as a CI. I think i was a CI in the Thread he used for reference, better use the EI page and the current roster.
Thirdly, I think this project will be a great success for at least all of us when we get this done, even more so if this generates people coming in with curiosity.
On a different note, my name is still misspelled in the Roster It's not SEELEYE, it's SEELYE. just think i'm SEEing some LYE on the floor. Now mind you i'm not mad and don't take this as an insult for the misspelling, but my family name was always misspelled or mispronounced so if you ever say it, just pronounce it like the SEALY Mattresses. Long story as to how my family came up with the name as it is today, but thanks again and let's see this map go.

------------------

1. Subjunctives are EVIL. Trust me.
2. I think that it would be way too crowded for the map to have every single border on there, especially if we happen to get onto continents where the countries are REEEAALLLLYY small. Is there a possibility that we could put in just the major political borders for the countries there are members in? This would certainly give it some sort frame of reference.
Well, there's my spare change.
<3

Zabet,
I agree, the borders whether National or state, would be a moot point with th pop-ups.
I do like the Idea of the pop-ups. This will make information available without crowding the screen.
Someone (I forget who, forgive me) suggested they could maintain the data.
We have three resources:
1)The EI page lists all of our names.
2)The Curiosity thread contains many of our ages.
3)The Roll call thread lists a lot of locations.
Now we just need to compile that data and request for the info from those who had not posted in those threads.
Give me some time and I can gather a database and start requesting data and permission.
OK?????

I agree that the pop-up design would eliminate the need for borders.
That's very cool. I think that the pop-ups should include the following information:
1)Name
2)Present Location
3) (Opt.) E-mail/Age.
But I think it would be excellent that if someone wanted to contact the KOJ, that they could route all of them through someone who could distribute them properly.
It has merit. Like everything else, we're hammering out the details now.

Zabet and or SongCoyote,
Do either of you have a webserver you can place the doc I sent?
If so can you upload it and post the url here?
The format should help. The red spaces indicate where we are lacking data. And should make it easier for those who cna supply the data to see what we need.
------------------

When I was in my first online club, my roommates and I did something similar to this with a map of the U.S. and thumbtacks. I like the rough draft along with many of the suggested changes so far.
My own personal suggestions (pardon if I'm repeating what others have already mentioned):
A world map divided by continent with numbers of Knights on each continent. Click on a continent and you get a political map of that continent with the dots showing approximately where each individual lives.
I'm all for making each individual dot link to contact information so long as each individual got to decide exactly what goes into their contact information. Personally, I would like my own to include a link to my webpage as well as city/state, etc.
My thanks to each of you selflessly spending your free time working on these and similar projects.
------------------

Now, I may have missed this in the above message list, but it seems to me that if we grow much larger at all, we may have a map that's completly covered with dots... unless we condence the dots. For each conuntry (or maybe state/providence/nation for larger ones), we have 1 set of dots representing rank by color, with a number inside representing how many knights/squires of that rank there are.
Alternativly, we could have a single dot per area, with a number representing the number of knights+squires total, the number being color coded to the highest rank in the area, and then have rank listed next to each of the people listed under that dot.
If you hate the idea, please don't have chelse summon a dragon to chomp me!!!
------------------

I popped into the "oath" thread to take a look around.
While there I realized the Order is growing a lot. How often do we plan on updating it?
If we keep growing this will be a monumental undertaking.
------------------

The applet ideas have some good merit.
I've been think for a while about how the EI roster works. Currently, it's a static HTML page which I go in and edit manually each time I do an update. (Which is quite time consuming).
I'm now thing it's time to write a database back-end to it, and use some sort of dynamic page.
It would be quite possible to include geographic information in the database, and have the applet look it up from there.
If anyone's interested in exploring this idea a bit more, let me know...
Regards,
Sir Greg

Hi everyone,
My life has gotten totally crazy in the past month... and I'm going to be loosing my computer and internet conection for a while (*WCWS* - Web Comics Withdrawal Syndrome), so I just wanted to let everyone know that I won't be able to work on the World Map as orginally planned. But I still think it's a wonderful idea and my blessings go with whomever might want to do it.
Hopefully I won't be gone terribly long!!
love and light,
Zabet
