SPOILERS:Shares, I'm sorry if you feel that way, but iirc, the desciption of the buttons I got when PinkNose first entered the room. So that's whiy I thought someone with seeing eyes might actually get more out of it, as PinkNose is blind, after all. Also I had PinkNose ask Cockadoodledoo politely.
I hope you do have more luck with the supposed imposter, though. (We don't know that the creature on the pillar is indeed the real guardian of the spring. It could very well be the case that THEY are the imposter and the one at the spring is the real thing...)

SPOILERS:I know, YaB, that's why I made my character return and check in the first place. Please don't take it personally that the Chickslash is gruff and unfriendly, she was bred for fighting and has a hard exterior. Inside, Cockadoodle is hurting like hell to see that creature suffer, and she is mad that she is not able to help it physically. It revives memories of her past that she tried to drown out. She wanted to freak out and smash the torture machine, but the other bird didn't want to let her. I (Shares) am totally fine, but my avatar is about to snap...

DarkRoot tries diplomacy with the creature but it attacks anyway and hits for two points killing him.
Cockadoodle moves right and up into the shop room. She seems upset.
PinkNose heals the creature again before asking the creature about the buttons. "No it's in a control room." it says silently and sleepily.
Hollowfang moves right.
Orka moves left and notices a small cockroach like creature in the center platform. "Hello friend" it says questioningly.
Jack tries to manipulate the buttons but they seem to have become rigid and unmovable.

So the buttons don't work, the control panel is some place else, and we can't cut the poor creature down. I'm not sure what to do now, but if we go to the science creature, we should go there together. Ti seems to deal pretty nasty damage.
Unlees the others come up with a good idea, PinkNose will stay next to the creature on the pillar and keep on healing it.

Cockadoodle is sad that DarkRoot is gone. It does not ease her urge to kill. Evildoers beware, for Chickslash is coming for you!
Cockadoodle moves up into the fountain room. She greets the creature at the fountain nicely, making sure not to scare it or give it a reson to flee. She will do that later. For now, the Chickslash merely drinks from the fountain.
