Well, one thing I've always found interesting was the concept of a DNI, or direct neural interface for controlling vehicles, such as ships. However, it kinda goes into cyberpunk territory.

Not if you do it Outlaw Star style. What with the tasteful nudity and the person sized fluid filled computer interface chamber.

Speaking of which, that's the kind of character for me. I claim the one of a kind experimental military bio-android character. Designed as the pinnacle of navigation technology, this android can safely navigate many areas at warp speed that no normal pilot or computer system could. A highly desired and powerful characteristic. It is even rumored that the jump points can be "linked" by navigating a type of pseudo-space allowing one to travel from one jump point to another nearby one even if it is not the normal end destination. The android is basically human both in appearance and personality; however, it is often treated more like a machine or possession.

That's my idea. Does it work or is it asking too much?

Eeeh, I was thinking of the Shadowrun rigger set-up, using cybernetic jack mounted in the skull. The body tank rig doesn't really work with a pilot's chair...

Name: Crystal "Kris" Gauche
Sex: Female
Species: Human
Race: Caucasian
Age: 34
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 153 lbs
Hair: Auburn
Eyes: Green/Grey (Left/Right)
Physical Description: Kris has a mature face with slightly rounded cheeks and untidy, shoulder-length hair. It's obvious that her face was smooth once, but now bears several scars. Of note is the large, poorly healed horizontal gash that covers both of her cheeks, cutting across her nose; and the large burn that covers a fair portion of the right side of her face. She's also got a pretty good tan. In terms of figure, she's quite the looker, with a more-than-generous chest and ample curves. She's in good shape, but doesn't have the body of an athlete. Her body also bears it's fair share of scars, mostly burn marks over what remains of her right limbs.
Kris has two artificial limbs, her right arm (Just above the elbow) and her right leg (just below the knee.) Her arm is a higher-quality model, and moves just like a real arm should. It has no skin, but it's shape is close enough to a real arm that it's hard to notice under her clothing, and she wears a glove over that hand. Her leg is much less sophisticated, being a somewhat feminine-shaped near-lowest-end model.
Outfit: Kris wears a variety of long-sleeve shirts, most of them revealing her midriff. Over top of it, she wears a brownish...well it's something that's a cross between a cloak, a shawl, a poncho, and a scarf. She wears a black glove over her right hand. Her blue pants are skintight from the belt to just above the knees, where they are separated from the looser lower-legs by a small belt on each leg.
Personal Effects and Possessions:
- A Y-81 model D-Tech blaster, which she keeps in a low-slung holster. This sucker packs a punch.
- A small 'hold out' pulse laser pistol.
- A regular old dagger.
- A Shadari-class UETC corvette, "Main Gauche" with onboard A.I. "David"
-- The Main Gauche is 35 meters long by 24.3 meters wide by 8.6 meters high. It is equipped with a top-of-the-line PropulsionTech sub-light engine, a standard Shadari Jump Drive Interface Device and an experimental Warp Drive, acquired though less-than-legal means. This non-standard mix of technologies is a high-maintenance.
-- Has 2 pulse laser turrets, one mounted on top of the ship, and the other on the bottom (A la the Millennium Falcon/Ebon Hawk), and duel concussion missile tubes. It has standard corvette-level armor, but a over-powered shields.
David:
David is a AI of unknown origin. Kris acquired him as part of a smuggling deal gone sour. It was the kind of deal where you don't know what you're from whom to whom, but you are getting payed. But when Kris wasn't payed (on account of the government having captured the recipients of the package and her employers), she decided to see if she could use the cargo for herself, or at least sell it. She activated David, and hasn't regretted at all. He's been an immense help. He is integrated into the Main Gauche's systems. He doesn't remember when he was made, or by whom; he had only a personality and basic information indexes of a standard AI when he was activated.
Personality: Davis is more professional than Kris, but that's not saying much. He's not up-tight or professional, but he is more organized.
Appearance: David only appears in holographic form, and his appearance varies depending on the quality of projector. On the highest quality projectors, he appears as a African-American man, with swept-back straight black hair. His outfit fluctuates a bit, but his default is this.

Personality: Crystal is a confidant individual. She made a name for herself as a smuggler and pilot after a daring string of improbably successful warp-jumps. While she ofter accepts lucrative smuggling gigs, she just as often ends up stuck on some backwater world because her modifications have taxed the Main Gauche beyond its limits. She often takes local odd jobs until she can get the Gauche back into space, but more often than not, she tracks down local bounties.
Other:
- Partially due to her extensive injuries, and due to the sloppy job that was done installing the cybernetic ports for her limbs; she in near-constant pain, and is addicted to the painkiller Vizurix. Most of the time, two pills a day will get her through the day, but some days are better or worse than others. She has quite the stockpile currently, so she's not worried about it right now.
- Kris practices a martial art known as "The Unbleeding Style" mixed martial art. It was developed for those with prosthetic limbs, and is a form that makes use of the additional weigh and force behind mechanical limbs.
- Although it's not as obvious as the other two prostheses, her right grey eye is also artificial. It is probably the most expensive out of all three.
- Due to the frequent repairs the Main Gauche requires, Kris has several standard tools stored in her leg.
- Theme Song: Blood Pain
- The "Main Gauche" joke is pretty obvious, but can you spot the other dagger-related pun in Crystal's name?

Edit 1:Added to the Main Gauche, and Kris's physical description.
Edit 2:Added to all the fields.

The only defining characteristic between knowledge and belief is the point of view.
If making a story or RP is like baking cookies, then angst is the vanilla extract. You don't put any in, and the final product is bland, and tasteless. Put too much in, and it's bitter and gross. But if you use just the right amount, then you get something truly delicious.

Neural Interfaces:
I can live with those. There are three levels of interfaces.
Induction - A touch-pad or helmet conducts the neural impulses. The induction link works through hair or thin clothes. This results in Computers without keyboard, Space ships with a helmet instead of control stick, etc. It is the slowest Neural interface, still considerably superior to manual interfaces, though. This kind of interface does not allow a full immersion into cyberspace, nor fully sensory immersion.
They are usable by anyone without need for any implants. It needs some training though to archive high performances.
Socket - A skull or spine implant with one or multiple sockets. Cheap operations often result in nervous shakes and sensory overloads.
You need a fitting interface plug on your device. Performance is greatly increased, partial or full immersion is possible. You ARE however susceptible to malicious feedback... EMP, Hacking, etc.
Complete - This is your gel-filled tank, lot of implants along the nerve clusters. This is a full immersion only system which needs several hours plugging and unplugging. You have full sensory feedback... in fact you ARE the machine you are connected to. There is no significant delay between a thought and an action.

Kris looks basically fine, albeit forces me to add some words about weapons.
Artificial body parts are a definite go.

Common weapon technologies are:
Blasters.
They are the Energy weapons equivalent of short ranged high caliber. A pistol got few shots and in a close distance quite some punch.
Carbine versions work mostly like shotguns. Rifles are mostly against Lightly armored vehicles, shoulder mounted one shot blasters make veritable anti tank weapons.
All blasters have in common that they combine armor penetration with lethality. They even tend to short circuit electronics. Oh... also they are expensive to maintain, very energy consuming (means few shots) and not stealthy at all. Military higher ups and specialists use these.

Lasers.
Lasers are the low damage, high Rate of Fire weapons.... actually they produce a continues ray, so it is extremely easy to hit a target with these. But modern armor is mostly unaffected by them. They are energy efficient and last quite a while, they also are cheap. Which makes them the #1 choice of weapon for most casual weapon user.

Pulse Lasers.
Pulse Lasers on the other hand make use of very short, high energetic laser bursts. They got a significantly lower rate of fire, but a much higher Armor Penetration. They lack the Blasters' Lethality, though. The high energetic pulses drain more energy than a continuous beam. They got more shots than Blasters, but less than ordinary lasers. Are in general a cheaper, less effective (but higher ranged) replacement for Blasters.
Policemen and military grunts use these. (Sniper rifles usually go here, due to the range advantage)

Slug throwers.
Nowadays these are the exotics in weaponry. But those slug throwers that are around are highly priced, very reliable, effective and most of all, due to a huge choice of special ammunition, versatile. Larger weapons do include grenade and rocket launcher.

Melee.
Advances in the melee weapon technology and the cramped situations in space boarding fights made some weapons popular...
Vibroknifes, -swords, -whatever. High performance alloys and 25 KHz vibrations turn any cutting edge into a sci-fi chainsaw which cuts armor and limps alike. They are very effective, but actually cut armor about exactly once before turning dull. They are affordable, but not cheap.
Monomolecular edges. These are the creme de la creme in melee fights. Even sharper than vibro-weapons, much more durable and highly illegal. This is Military only equipment, thus black market prices are exorbitant. (This is a very valuable smuggling good, and a very dangerous one.)

Body armor.
Is light, flexible and concealable... up to veritable combat armors with strength boosters and the like. Body armor is not uncommon, especially space faring folks like their protective values when machinery explodes or mutiny arises. (Combat Armor and such heavy equipment is in general however illegal)

Androids. The military is speculated to have android technology, but it does not seem advances or cheap enough to be used much, but specialized models are imaginable.
I need to ponder the Navigation bit for a while longer... It does sound good, but I need to make sure it does not collide with my plot.

AIs... are not, as often despited, perfectly logical. Actually the only way to archive real Intelligence was to mimic human imperfection. That means that AIs DO make errors, misjudge or do not think fast enough on their feet. They sure have a very quick perception and the inherent mathematical ability of a computer, though.
Such a limitation is necessary to allow Players to play AIs ;)
Highly specialized AIs are common, especially to aid steering Warp ships or to guard sensitive computer networks.
Also AIs DO have basic legal rights, like the right of continued existence (thus destroying an AI is murder), the right to moral objection (they are not obliged to follow any order which they view as morally wrong... in theory) and the right of privacy.
They do NOT have the freedom of movement, to vote or to choose their employer ('Selling' AIs however is slave-trading, which is kinda paradox.)

Hmm... I'm thinking my trickster might should be along the lines of a bard or rogue, but I'm not sure.
I definitely want to go human, though. As far as inspiration for the character type and personality goes, I'm thinking along the lines of Simkin from the Darksword Trilogy if anyone is familiar. Which leads me to wonder...

Is there anything supernatural in this setting? I hesitate to use the word "magic" with regard to sci-fi, as that lies more in the realm of fantasy, but that's basically what I'm wondering. I mean... it sounded like the vampires have psionic abilities; do other races have access to anything like that?

Indeed they do. Psionics are rare but proven to exist in all species.
Most common are empathy, telepathy, precognition and suggestive/hypnotic abilities.
But there are know occurrences of weak telekinets, pyro and cryokinets, astral projection, 'Anti-Psi' and even teleportation. (Think Babylon 5)
The Military pays GOOD for proven Psis, or uses other methods to ensure their employment.

For a matter of fact, there also are working 'Cinematic', mysterious Chi-abilities... it doesn't quite reach the extent of your ordinary Ninja or Samurai Anime, much less Tiger and Dragon style, but feel free to add something exotic here.

Magic is, if existent, not proven. Many Magic traditions rely on the subtlety of magical effects anyways. So this in a go, but If you want Fireball hurling mages... I do not have a problem with that (I play several Sci-fi RPs which work great with magic). But I did not plan on it.

Postby Drayco on Fri Aug 20, 2010 11:39 am

I contribute a Psyker, and genetic modifications for fun and medicine!

Contrary to what someone's already told me, I haven't actually played the game InFamous, though from what I've heard the powers in that game function on a similar concept. If you have seen that game, then I guess that'll give you an idea of what he can do? Except, you know, without all the cool stuff like shooting lightning bolts and whatnot.

Name: Drayco Jinn Ryktale ("Rai-kuh-tail"), "Chimera"
Sex: Male
Age: 25
Height: 6'5"
Weight: ~200 lbs
Appearance:
Physically fit... mostly. Drayco's the kind of guy to avoid fights rather than get into them, and for all his height he's really just ridiculously lanky rather than athletic. He's agile and good at running, but he doesn't have much body mass. He's got strikingly bright blue eyes and wild blonde hair kept tame only by the red headband he wears, but the most notable thing about him is his arms. From just past the shoulder, they heavily resemble Sur'Arrezzt arms, with jade-green scales, and ending in slightly clawed fingers.
Normally, however, he wears insulated gloves and long sleeves, so his arms don't see the light of day too often. His normal attire is a red or white undershirt, a particular red coat with long sleeves and brownish leather shoulders, black or grey pants, and a good pair of reddish leather boots. He also has a particular pendant he always wears around his neck or under his shirt, a plain silver chain with a brassy-colored disc about 3 inches wide, one side of which is mirror-reflective, while the other is kinda dull. There's no other markings on it.

Personality:
Surprisingly good-natured for a ne'er-do-well outlaw kinda guy as he is. He's mostly just lazy, and will always try to find a shortcut or an easy way out of a situation. Despite this, he's got a strong sense of loyalty to anyone he actually calls a friend, and does not take betrayal lightly. Despite that getting him to tell the truth about things is a rarity.
He has one other thing that's gotten him as much trouble as it has good karma, and that's that he has a habit of doing odd jobs to help travelers that need a hand, up to and including giving away money. He considers it making up for the one guy who helped him as a kid, but on the other hand it's the reason he usually lives on a very small budget.

Psi Stuff:
- Weak Electrokinetic, basing off nerve impulses and bioelectricity and that fun stuff. Short version? His hands double as tasers if he wants, and he can fire a 'static' jolt of about the same strength up to about 10 feet away. He's gotten good enough that he can manipulate the electricity to work in simple electronics - for example, he can run most home appliances with his power, as well as manipulate less complicated devices. He couldn't work a computer with his power, for example, but he could 'pick' an electronic lock. Using any of these things tires him a bit, overuse causes bad headaches.
- Similarly, he can 'read' nerve impulses and bioelectricity and other electrical input, adding up to him being a limited precog/telepath. It's enough that he can tell if someone's about to swing a chair at him, and he can tell if somebody's warming up a blaster nearby, or if he accidentally just triggered something he didn't want to while disarming a bomb.

Non-Psi Stuff:
- Knows a lot of legerdemain style tricks - he can even pick the outdated bolt and key locks so rarely used anymore, and he's good at remaining stealthy despite being so tall and lanky.
- His Sur'Arrezzt-like arms are enhanced to be extremely durable and strong - however, it didn't extend to his shoulders, so while he can throw a really nasty right hook, his actual strength didn't change.
- Practiced in the Sweet Science as a kid, so if he's forced into a brawl he actually is a very competent boxer. Add that to the ability to taser somebody with a punch, and he can end a fight without injury quite quickly.
- Directionally challenged. His sense of direction is beyond nonexistant. This is the kind of guy you want to keep away from the controls of your ship at all costs. He is, however, good with overland vehicles... as long as someone else.
- Despite being an electrokinetic, he's actually a pretty crappy repairman. He knows electronics and some basic stuff about computers, but he's no genius and will probably break more than he'll fix. Disarming locks and bombs? Good. Fixing weapons and engines? Bad.
- Average shot with any firearm at best. He only carries one for the most part so he can wave it around to defuse a situation or hold someone up.

Stuff Stuff:
- His coat is weather-resistant, fireproof, very warm, and made with materials that actually resist light blaster fire (pistols only, basically). He's always got it on, it's his favorite piece of clothing besides his bandana.
- Carries an old-fashioned semiautomatic slug-thrower pistol at his hip, which primarily is used to wave around and show off than actually be fired. He carries a small hold-out blaster inside his coat, however, which is far more likely to be used than his main gun.
- His gloves are wrist-length, and made of the same stuff as his coat, plus being insulated. This is mainly so he doesn't accidentally fry things he handles, since while he is still good with his powers, he doesn't trust them not to go off at the wrong times.

Backstory:
Born on the snowy merchant planet Surin, Drayco grew up in one of the great residential outposts that dot the planet, the only places where the weather isn't a constant state of "holy balls it's cold." His parents were simple tradesmen who dealt in whatever sold best at the time, and he grew up learning to be in a similar career. And by that I mean the only tangentially related career of smuggling.
AND THEN HIS PARENTS DIED IN A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY AND-- no, that would be poor writing. He was a pretty normal kid until he was about 16 and his psi powers decided to go 'O HAI' and fry a gun he was learning how to shoot, badly injuring both his arms. Luckily, out of sheer coincidence the person who the gun had been for was a 'Medical Scientist' (he insisted on that term), and felt responsible enough that Drayco became one of the first test subjects of the new 'Bio-Graft' procedure - an engineered replacement part is surgically and chemically grafted onto the subject's body in a way that it melds with the existing structure as if it was a natural part of the body. In his case, the doctor used DNA from his own arms (he was a Sur'Arrezzt), and thus Drayco now has a pair of arms that don't appear to match the rest of his species.
Sometime later, Drayco decided to set out into the galaxy to partly freeload way from his family, partly to go on adventure, and partly because he got involved in a particular smuggling escapade when he was in his early 20's on Surin that would have gotten him put on trial and sentenced if he and the others involved ever got caught. It left him with enough money to live on for a while, even after he parted from his partners in crime half a year ago, leaving him on Beta Minnix until he finds somewhere else to go. He's a drifter with a criminal history that will hopefully never see the light of day, getting by on odd jobs until the next big gig rolls around

If only his parents knew what he was up to, he'd be getting a Stern Talking To About How Hard Work Is What A Man Must Live For And blah blah blah blah can you see why the guy left home with a bunch of criminal yahoos?

I do not have objections and will list this one under 'Thief' ;)
Take note of the fact that armor does a relatively good job at blocking taser attacks and such, which is why taser weapons became unpopular.
However due to the paranormal nature of this we can give a zapping touch a better than expected Armor penetration. A distant zap should better be aimed at an unarmored target. ok?

Another short question is, the reason why he did not join the military which does offer a generous payment and officer rank for most Psis, but instead hid his ability.

Haha, if there is even a 1% chance that something I ask for might run afoul of the plot, don't consider it. I'll inevitably muck things up with it on accident somehow. I have a natural talent making such mistakes

Really, I was just throwing that navigation idea out there because I was trying to think of a reason why it would be advantageous for the military to build an android with complete neural ship interface capabilities. Really the core of what I am asking for is a specialized android character that:

1. looks and behaves human,
2. has a complete neural interface,
3. is a member of the military.

Any ability or description above and beyond that is just frosting on the cake (to coin a phrase) as far as I'm concerned. Nice but unnecessary. Still it is nice to have some kind of gimmick. How about one of these: resilient to physichal harm (ex. android skin offers them similar protection as light body armor would), less prone to mental attack, superb piloting skills, etc. Actually, what would be really awesome is if there could be grappler ships (spaceships with manipulator arms modified for combat purposes). That right there, superior ship to ship "armed" combat would be a great reason for androids to exist.

Okay, I have watched way way too much Outlaw Star lately. if I'm just rambling nonsense or stuff that's bad ideas let me know and I'll drop the android angle altogether in favor of unfrozen warrior from the Eugenics War period (Star Trek reference). Or something completely different if that doesn't work. I'm flexible and full of fun ideas.

Androids are fine.
It should have an AI for a brain, playing insentient computers, even when they run a personality simulation is kinda boring ;)
If it was in the military, it should by now have deserted... we'll have troubles getting the chars working together if one is active member of the military... Though I could be convinced by a good explanation.

There could be numerous special abilities... in fact, the military would not create an android without special ability.
Try to think of a military concept or functionality the android could have been designed for and go from there.
An assassination tool would have superior combat (probably melee), speed and build in stealth.
An infiltrator bot might be able to morph its appearance and be an excellent computer hack.
An agitator has superior social skills, psychology, politics and so on.
Just as guidelines.
A pure super soldier is less probable, though. They got enough good grunts.

Edit: About the complete NI. This is less problematic for Androids and more so to an extend. It is very easy to create a computer connection between Android and any computer by cable or even radio, Cable gives up to a complete immersion, radio only partial. The android needs very complicated wiring though shall he be able to use NIs designed for humans.

I have no idea what Sur' Arrezzt names are like, so the one used in this bio is a 'business name' for dealing with humans.

Name: Seth Reed
Career: High-speed 'courier' and blockade runner
Gender: Male
Race: Sur' Arrezzt
Age: Relatively young adult
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 160 lbs
Scale Colour: Rust brown

Appearance Since he spends most of his time in space piloting his ship, Seth is of below average strength and build. He has two obvious 'socket' DNI ports on the nape of his neck, which he doesn't bother to cover, and his eyes are also cybernetic, the irises coloured red. As for his attire, he wears a black Nomex piloting suit with silver bars crossing over the torso.

Personality: He is two things, a gear head, and a junkie, with a temperament to match. He is in love with speed, spaceships and danger; spending most of what he earns on getting an edge in his work... which he treats as a game. However, he can't stand being tied down, and will refuse any 'permanent' employment, doing one-shot jobs, as long as there's a challenge, and good pay.

Ship
- A heavily modified Expedite class courier ship, "Maverick" (based on this)
--Dimensions -NOTE- All numbers are at 'highest point'.
--Length 140m
--Width 12m, Wingspan 80m
--Height 13m
-Ship equipment
+ Armament: 2x underwing "Shrike" missile launchers, Fore mounted pulse laser battery, Aft mounted "Caltrop" mine launcher
+ 225 cubic meters of cargo space
+ Socket DNI (good quality)
+ ECM suite
+ Modified for speed, firepower, and shielding, in that order.
+ Propulsion: Twin oversized sublight engines, with built-in warp drive
Equipment and other gear:
- L&K Ballistics pulse laser handgun ver. 37
- Retinal display fitted to eyes (Linked with DNI)
- Pilot suit that doubles as body armour
- Vibro knife

Background: Born on the homeworld of his race, Seth had a uneventful and boring life, which was a major problem for him. He knew he wanted to get of the rock he called 'home', but he wasn't going to just hitch a lift into space, he wanted his own ship. However, he had nowhere near enough money for it. Although he was involved in a racing team, eventually landing the 'big win' that got him the money he needed. He started small, with a simple cargo shuttle, and worked his way up to the ship he hoped for...

Seth now works in the less legal aspect of the cargo business, doing as he pleases, as long as it doesn't get boring.

Looking good. 'Business Names' is very typical for Sur' Arrezzt to do. Their culture is not homogeneous, so there are no typical names for Sur'Arrezt. Some have very long, eloquent names, other go by Zut 335 or fully adapted Human names.

One thing I forgot to mention, we do not want too many ships, especially not of the same size. Two or three are fine though.
This goes also for the Main Gauche:
Of importance is to list some rough adjectives of the ships. Mostly whether or not it has a warp drive (Jump drives are a no-brainer).
Frigate sounds like a war-ship class, which is fine, but especially frigates are SO darn variable in size and firepower that I need a bit more detail ;)
There are energy shields for space ships... actually if someone is interested I can list different options of energy shield, but just as well we can keep to standard shields.

I know ships and equipment can be a bit tough, if someone needs help with anything technical let me know. It is improbable that I ever can make a complete list of technology and gadgets available, so if you need something that does something, but aren't sure if and how that works just say it.

Frigates are the smallest of warships, and are generally specialized, usually as escorts for unarmed transport ships. Destroyers are cruisers are much more serious ships, and just above that are battleships and carriers.

Crystal, being a Han Solo expy; the Main Gauche is a Millennium Falcon expy. 'Frigate' is a little too large; maybe 'freighter'? I'll be drawing up Kris and the Main Gauche, and I'll elaborate on it then.

Any sizeable freighter would be much larger then a frigate; and ocean-going frigate (as in, one in RL) would be about one hundred meters in length. This may seem like a lot, but a battleship can be up to three hundred, and a freighter is over that length.

I remember that the Falcon's designation is "YT-1300 transport." I just want something that roughly analogous to that.

Edit: Currently, the Main Gauche looks like a cross between this and this. I'll update her bio when I have it drawn and finalized, but right now, it just can't seem to come up with a good idea.

EDITED BIO:

Name: Dr. Finn
Race: Android
Gender: Male
Height: 5’-9” (175.26 cm)

Basic appearance:
Finn looks like an average 21 year old Caucasian human male of slim build. He has straight raven black hair (head, eyebrows, and eyelashes only). He is warm to the touch but has no apparent pulse. His chest moves in a way which gives the appearance of breathing. He doesn’t sweat. His skin is coarse like sand paper to the touch except for the palms of his hands. His palms look the same as the rest of his skin, but they feel smooth and almost metallic. Finn has an identifying “scar” or locked access panel located in the small of his back.

Finn wears grease stained coveralls that used to be some shade of blue but are now rather grey. He also sometimes wears long sleeved shirts and jeans. When he has need for stealth, he has a tight fitting black body suit with camouflage properties.

Personality:
Finn, despite his situation, is a kind hearted and gentle person. He gets along well with others, but he never lets anyone grow close to him. He is considered a shy loner. He has a strong sense of personal justice and isn’t the type to sit idly by while people get hurt. He has to be cautious though and he takes care not to stand out too much. Finn shares his mind with an advanced military AI designed for assassinations and other black-op scenarios. It sometimes influences him to behave uncharacteristically cold and logical.

Non-psi abilities:
1. Thick Skin: His rough skin has properties similar to light body armor.
2. Melee: Finn the scientist is no fighter, but the AI he shares a mind with fights very well. It isn't good for Finn's sanity though to let the AI take over too often.
3. Jamming: “When switched on, they know SOMETHING is there, just not what and where exactly.”
4. Complete neural interface: As an android, Finn can connect his mind directly to computerized systems even with a piece of cable.

Psi abilities:
1. Pyrokinetic: Fin can superheat the special material in the palms of his android hands. This is good for melting locks and light armor as well as delivering some very nasty punches.
2. Absorb: Direct applications of psionic and electrical energy can be absorbed (preventing damage) through his skin and stored in his internal psi-battery. This ability fails in the event the battery is filled to capacity.

Psudeo-psi ability:
1. Battery Life: Finn does not require food or breathable air so long as his psi-battery has energy. As his battery loses energy, his attacks grow weaker until he is reduced to human strength. If his battery drains completely, the artificial body shuts down until either Finn’s mind generates enough psi energy to reboot it or some other form of energy is given to it by an outside source.

Background:
Fin is a parapersonality inhabiting the AI mind of a military android. He is considered a deserter and a traitor. The military is offering a hefty bounty for his capture and safe return.

Finn wasn’t always an android. In fact, it was his becoming an android that drove him to become a deserter. Allow me to explain.

Finn was a lead researcher for the weapons research and development department of the military. He was also a minor pyrokinetic psionic. Although Finn’s psionic ability was far too weak for combat use, it aided him greatly in his research on psionic energy. During his employment with the military, Finn became a notable of the scientific community for his breakthrough developments in psionic amplification tech. As his fame grew, he was eventually invited to join the top secret android project. This was a major honor as only the best of the best were ever invited to join such projects of importance. He would get the chance to work alongside many of the people he had idolized since a young age.

The android Finn and his team were working on was to be the pinnacle of black-ops technology. It was expected to flawlessly perform assassination, sabotage, spying and other such tasks. Finn’s main contribution to the design was the compact and unique power source known as the psi-battery. The psi-battery is a device which can store mental energy and convert it into a useable form. He also developed the unique material additive that allows the android to absorb both psi-energy and electrical energy through its skin.

Little did anyone suspect that among the scientists lurked a traitorous member of a prominent rebel faction. The rebels wanted to get their hands on the android while it was its AI was still incomplete and susceptible to corruption. The rebel attack was a swift and surgical strike. The inside man, Dr. Agassa, setup a bomb in the main research laboratory then excused himself to his room under the pretense of feeling ill. The ensuing explosion destroyed the research team and a good portion of their work. The only member of the android research project not killed in the blast was Dr. Finn. Finn and the android had both been in a shielded combat testing area. Finn was there to oversee the testing of its ability to work with and augment a psionic partner. He would give it energy and order it to attack simulated enemies.

So there Finn was testing the Android’s systems, when suddenly, there is a huge shock wave (from the lab explosion) that rocks the testing room like a small earthquake. Something is wrong. Armed men in military uniform burst into the room through the door armed with blasters. They line up against the wall and block off the only exit. Something is definitely wrong. These people don’t look like soldiers from the base. Finn is frozen in place with his mouth agape. Without receiving new orders from Finn, the android just sort of sits there as the testing program continues to run in the background. That is when the men standing in front of the door step aside and Dr. Agassa walks into the room.

“Dr. Agassa, was that and explosion earlier?” Finn gestures towards the door and asks with urgency, “Just what the h*** is going on out there, and for that matter who are these men? They aren’t from the base.”
“There’s no need for alarm doctor,” Dr. Agassa says calmly, “there was a small accident in the lab. Nothing serious.” Agassa smiles arrogantly, “You look terrible doctor. I think its time you let me take over things with the android.”
“No, I’m fine, I still-” Finn is cut short by the armed men raising their weapons and taking aim at him.
“Perhaps I wasn’t clear. This isn’t a suggestion Finn. Order the android to follow my command and I might let you live.”

The reality of the situation hit Finn hard. Dr. Agassa is… a traitor. He betrayed us all to get his hands on the android. Finn grits his teeth “so that’s how it is Agassa.” His fist trembles with anger then goes limp. “Fine then,” he says in a somewhat defeated voice. Finn turns to the motionless android and speaks in a commanding voice.

Finn: “Android, this is an order,”
Agassa: “Good boy Finn.”
Finn focuses his mind and connects his energy to the androids “kill th-”

Dr. Agassa’s eyes flash with white hot rage. Without a moment’s hesitation he orders his grunts “SHOOT HIM NOW!”

A barrage of weapons fire rains down on the doctor. No. I can’t die, not like this. If I die here Agassa’s crimes will have no witness. He’ll get the android and there will be no justice. As the energry beams tear into Finn’s flesh, his emotions burn with unparalleled intensity. The doctor’s life was no more.

“That damn fool,” Dr Agassa mutters bitterly, “You always had to play the hero Finn. What a pain.” Agassa walks across the room and kicks Finn’s remains with contempt, “Not so heroic now are you.” He motions to his thugs to grab the android as he says “Without orders, it can’t give you any trouble.”

The thugs move in to grab the android when suddenly it starts to move.

Dr. Finn’s voice: “Kill them all.”
AI voice: “Yes. Doc-tor.”
The grunts step back to protect their leader, but not before the android leaves a hand shaped burn mark on Agassa’s chest. A melee style fight breaks out and the AI manages to take down a few of the grunts before a panicked voice breaks over Dr. Agassa’s com device informing the rebels they are out of time. Military reinforcements are on their way to secure the base. The wounded Agassa orders the retreat.

With the battle over, Finn returns to his senses only to find his mind now occupies the android body. It seems that the special bond the two shared combined with the intense release of psionic energy at the moment of death and heightened emotions lead to an unprecedented psionic possession event. Finn now alone, contemplates his situation. If he stays, he can look forward to a life of being treated as less than human. As an unusual phenomena he would become the subject of scientific curiosity. Fated to be experimented on, prodded, disassembled and who know what else for the duration of his now unnaturally long life span. Worse, he might be expected to fill the androids intended roll of assassin and slowly lose his mind to the AI. So Finn chose what he saw to be the best option available. To run. To become a deserter and live freely in the shadows. He takes a small one man vessel and sets out into space.

The rebels had less time than they thought. The military ship caught them as they attempted to flee, and after a brief battle, destroyed the fools ((though some may have escaped)). Finn in his small craft was able to slip away unnoticed in the confusion of battle. Upon arrival at the base, the reinforcements find the android is missing. It must have been on that ship they destroyed. What a waste. With no android, no research, and no researchers the military had to shutdown the project. This was a significant set back to android research from which it never fully recovered.

Ten years have passed and Dr. Finn has settled into a new life as a small time mechanic. With all parties who could identify him dead, there is little chance of him being discovered. Still there are those out there who are aware that an assassin android was once researched by the military. Among those in the know, some believes it is still out there. The evidence is just too inconclusive.

@Drayco
I was just commenting on the collection of skills, which easily give the impression of a thief ;) I did not want to imply any form of personality or stigma.

@Main Gauche
I think the right term for the millennium falcon is 'Corvette'. Corvettes are between frigates and gunboats, small scale freighters, reconnaissance, light escorts, bombers, etc. Though there have been frigate dubbed classes of ships in corvette size, too, or even cruiser and battle ship size.
The term itself is not so important ;)
More important is for example... is it fast? Or heavily armored? Does it need a crew? Main weapons? Stealthy?
And... what kind of guy is David?
I guess most of those are answered of we refer to the Millennium falcon.

@Dr. Finn
I must say I got no problem with the concept. But then I am used to exceptionally exotic RPs, if someone else here things it might be a bit too much to keep it fun for everyone, speak up.

A few modifications.
I do not want a Mind transfer technology. The best they came up with is creating an insentient shadow of the copied personality which also tend to be unstable.
However, due to the origin of the Androids psionic abilities, the paranormal link between Dr. Finn and the prototype might have caused Dr. Finn's spirit to accidentally transfer into the android. A from of psionic possession which is unprecedented but plausible.

I do not think it are too many abilities. Especially the disguise is not perfect due to everyone touching his skin can easily remark the oddity.
Do not overdo the enhanced senses, then they are fine. There fits no telescope and no microscope inside that eyes, etc.

I would replace the stealth with a form of active Jamming (When switched on, they know SOMETHING is there, just not what and where exactly).
The disguise would be good to close in on the target... ... the Jamming would help to get away.
OR drop the disguise part entirely.

Also I like the conflict between AI and possessing mind. Thus I will rather emphasis that disadvantage than the bounty. Bounties are really nasty disadvantages, but problem being that they can consume a big part of the plot and drag in the whole group. I am not a fan of personal weakness which become a too big problem for the whole cast ;) (Also, the military probably will hunt you all either way ;D)

Yeah, actually the stuff you suggest makes for a much cleaner backstory with fewer loose ends and plot holes. I like the jamming idea a whole lot better than the stealth idea. I think the disguise and senses parts are better off gone. I made them up so that he could escape and avoid being found for so many years, but when I think about it, pretty much everyone who could identify him is dead so that isn't an issue. Also, for the same reason, the bounty makes little sense. How can you put a bounty on something that 1. Few if any people can identify, and 2. Is top secret in nature? So scrap that too.

And I originally wanted a form of possession due to the unique bond between the dr and android instead of mind transfer tech. I went the way i did because I was worried that possession might be too much of a departure from sci-fi into the realm of fantasy. But if you are okay with it then that's what I will change it into. Possession allows for a more believable timetable of events. It also gives him the chance to escape before the reinforcements arrive. This would allow the military to believe that Dr. Finn died like the others and that the android was lost to the rebels. No, wait, better yet that it was destroyed. How's this:

The rebels had less time than they thought. The military ship caught them as they attempted to flee and after a brief battle destroyed the fools. Finn who had taken a smaller one person craft was able to slip away unnoticed in the confusion of battle between the rebel and military ship. Upon arrival at the base, the reinforcements find the android is missing. It must have been on that ship they destroyed. What a waste.

So, pending these changes the character is approved?

EDIT: Bio has been updated. See previous post. ((I had to retype all the edits [and there were a LOT of them] from scratch four times because my browser kept crashing TT__TT )) I have to say, even if it ends up that this character doesn't fit into the setting I still enjoyed writing it. I had so much fun with it that it practically wrote itself. I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
