One note, though--

A chemist friend of mine told me that in order to get over about 95% purity, ethanol has to be treated with some pretty nasty chemicals. Which means you really don't want to drink it.

Everclear (95%) is pretty neat stuff, though. Open a full bottle and let it sit, and it will overflow due to sucking water out of the air!

Well, at 100%, the nasty chemicals have apparently also been removed... How they'd do that, I'm not sure.

You mean like decaf?
Well, when it's treated with nasty chemicals, it doesn't necessarily mean any residue of those chemicals remain after purification.

According to wikipedia, the Ethylene hydration process leaves a bit of benzene behind, which is carcenagenic.

Wikipedia also says that there are other methods, but it doesn't say why the poisonous one is still used if there are safer versions. Cheaper, maybe?

Maybe because that level of purity isn't ment for drinking?
