those two are a lot like P&A in the drama and teen angst department, and are pretty realistic (well, not always with Red String but it's still pretty good.)

It's a very clever comic, and it has a lot of funny and a fair amount of drama. It is however more cynical and biting than P&A. My favorite strips are the non-storyline social commentaries:

Josh Philips's Avalon http://www.avalonhigh.com was 4-star material in it's time, but the strip is pretty much wrapped up, as Josh just hasn't had time for it in the last 2-3 years.

Though it till now has dealt on equal parts with floating WW1 battleships and wars on strange alternative worlds, Alpha Shade also has it's part of high-school action - and pretty decent art, too. And cats. Lots of cats. Telepathic jedi cats with light saber claws.

Other than that, though, I'm afraid I don't read any high school webcomics.

Allright, here's my general list of recommendable web comics:

High Fantasy
Dire Destiny - drawn in a distinct style, yet very nicely detailed comic with a well-told story about old and new gods. Updates every two weeks.
Chronicles of Garas Classic D&D fantasy stuff with elves, dwarves, scantily clad rangers and necromncers and two types of lizardmen. Very nice artwork, good story. I hope the artist switch won't hurt the comic, but the new guy's stuff seems in line with the old guy's in terms of quality as well as style. Updates Fridays.
Rise of the SentinelsA D&D-ish fantasy comic about a peasant boy who is chosen to be a central element in the struggle between two ancient races. On hiatus, sadly.

SciFi
Monica Furious One of the two decent cyberpunk-y webcomics I found so far. Updates every time easter, christmas and thanksgiving fall onto the same day, but it DOES update. I think.
BFX 2A cooperative between two comic arists and the other really nice cyberpunk-y webcomic out there (that I know of), it's got great artwork, nice characters, good stories and updates every 2 months, if you're lucky.
Alpha Shade has already been mentioned, but here it's again, for completeness' sake. Updates about weekly.
Marsh Rocket is a comic that takes place on a colonised mars. Nice artwork, even if the colours take a bit getting used to. Updates every other week.
VOLG A somewhat odd but very well drawn Manga, taking place on an odd world in th edistant future where, among other oddities, giant albatrosses are a popular way to get around. Updates irregularily. The english translation is bumpy.

Other
Cown Samurai, A comic that is about as noir as webcomics seem to get these days, is about bushido, mobsters and a clown who moonlights as an assassin. Seemingly discontinued.
Dr. McNinja Well drawn and utterly hilarious. Updates often.
The Pet ProfessionalNot quite up to the rest in terms of artwork, but pretty funny to read.
Elf Only Inn A classic restarted and with better art than ever, this comic will seem very familiar to anyone who plays online, whether in char rooms or in a game world. Updates twice a week, at least.
Biozoic A web comic without words, but lots and lots of violence. Basically, creatures eat or otherwise kill each other. Nice monster design.

I don't really know about any other highschool / teen drama comics (except for As If and Ugly Girl, which have been mentioned), but here's a couple other slice-of-life comics, mostly with emphasis on friend / love relationships that are recommendable in my opinion:

Out there
Anywhere but here
Stuff sucks

These are the ones I like that don't belong in totally different genres, I'd say. Though they're still quite different from P&A.

Achewood --- you have to start from the very beginning for it to make sense, but it's THE most sympathetic, character-driven comic strip out there. I can think of at least five strips off-hand where I completely relate to either the action/reactions or the characters themselves: their emotions, their insecurities and paranoias, their confusions, their loves.

Wondermark --- it doesn't seem like it would work, does it? It does. Snappy, original humor from strip to strip keeps it from being formulaic.

No need to mention Dinosaur Comics and Jerkcity; everyone knows and appreciates them in their own right.

The above comics and Penny & Aggie are the only ones I read. I'm not much of a newspaper-comic person, but I'm a big fan of Silver Age DC.

I highly enjoy the following, in addition to the ones I mentioned earlier:

Really funny strips:
Narbonic Simply one of the funniest webcomics ever produced.
Evil Inc. The best gag strip about supervillains and -heroes.

Cute and good:
Count Your Sheep Adorable, funny, insightful.
Skinny Panda Love the character designs in this one, plus it's funny.

Other good stuff:
Aldus Maycombe Great art and interesting story so far, it hasn't been around long.
Modern Love Quite unique.
What Birds Know One of the few fantasy comics I like.
Culture Shock Solid art, funny comic.
For Better or For Worse Which isn't technically a webcomic in the traditional meaning of the word, but it can be read online, and I read it.

Historical:
SPQR Blues Set in ancient Rome, around 1930 years ago
Little White Knight Set in medieval Spain

I've got a couple more on my reading list, but some of them have been mentioned by others, plus I'm getting lazy.

Fantasy:

Drowtales: Moonless Age : What started as a D&D Forgotten Realms Fancomic is steadily evolving into one of the more visionary fantasy comics out there. Rejecting the practice of boxing it's world and everybody in it into an allegory of Good Vs. Evil that defines the High Fantasy genre, it instead immerses the reader in a more morally realistic, uncertain world through the point of view of the Drow people of Chel'el'sussoloth, the home of the drow. Their society is a brutal feudal world where practice of slave trading, ethic slavery, torture, kidnapping people for inhumane experimentation are not only regarded with widespread acceptance, but also no means of imagining a better way of life. Webcartoonist Yan "Kern" Gagne (Also French Canadian like our Creator and Artist of this comic) also does an impressive job of depicting the drow as an alien culture complete with customs that are appalling by 20-21st century post-Geneva convention standards of today, as well as making memorable characters, that, while products of their culture, often possess admirable traits along with their vices, as well as very realistic psyches, resulting in a cast the readers can identify and sympathize with, a trait Dark Fantasy lacks in general. I like this comic so much I made it my homepage.

Sabrina Online : One of the best 'furry' webcomics I've ever seen, excelling in artwork, humor, and tasteful use of adult themes. Non anthro fans can even enjoy this. The only catch is that it updates monthly.

The Class Menagerie : Though completed a while ago, the side-spliting level of humor and impressive characterization makes this a must read even if your not into the whole furry genre.

I don't read many High school/teen life comics except this one, but here's a list of what I do read.

Something Positive

I read Something Positive for the obvious reasons that have already been discussed ad nauseum. My brother turned me onto it, because I'm not a gamer and would normally never dream of reading a gaming comic, and I found it funny...so I kept reading.

Queen of Wands

Same reason, I indentify with Kestrel, as mentioned before, this is a completed comic. If you're gonna take the time to read the archives anyway, I suggest reading the ones with the comments at the bottom..they're great.

PVP

I like Skull. 'Nuff said.

The Devil's Panties

I simply think it's funny. As Jenny Breeden herself so aptly puts it: "You think I make this sh*t up?"

Luann

Technically not a webcomic, this comic can be read online, where I usually read it, so It's getting included on this list. This is also the only other high schoo/teen drama cartoon I read. If you like Penny and Aggie, you'll like Luann. It's a bit more wholesome, but it's got just as much humor and just as many poignant moments. I personally like the arc about Delta's Hodgkins Lymphoma. Check it out.

Home on the Strange

This is another gaming comic, but it's also funny.

Two Lumps

This is a webtoon about two russian blue cats and their many antics. It's hilarious.
