My Little Pony

Postby Lisa Dahling on Thu Nov 18, 2004 11:08 pm

This fixation with plastic toys from the 80's reminds me of a funny internet quiz I took about four or five years ago. Although I never suffered from a My Little Pony fetish (although I did have a brief fling with the Strawberry Shortcake crowd) I found it hilarious - and yet also disturbing. Amazingly, it still exists, if you want to check it out:

Porn Star or My Little Pony?

Welcome to Queen of Wands, Lisa.

Ps.
I took one look at that quiz and decided I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

First, agreed with HiFranc, there was no way I could tell.

Now then. That was just disturbing, looking at the results.

Why did I have to look at this stuff first thing in the morning?

I tried the quiz. I haven't failed that miserably since highschool. I got like 4 of them right.

On reading some of those true pony names, maybe they should have been called My Dirty Little Ponies. Although... that brings images of furries and such (or worse), so on second thought... uh, no. No they shouldn't.

Dont worry Gabe I only got three right... Mind you, I was very young when MY Little Pony came out so I don't remember it.. Now if theuy were asking about CareBears then I *might* remember them all (what with still having episodes of that on tape)

Oh, And Lisa Dahling. Stop teasing your great grandma about Peter Pan. You know grandma Wendy's always been a little funny in the head!

PS - It's not Lisa Dahling as in Peter Pan! What century are you from, sweetie? Pats and Eddie will have such a laugh when I tell them. We may laugh so hard Stoli comes out our noses!

It's from "Absolutely Fabulous" that British comedy that everyone was raving about years ago. I never got that show.

How do you get that show?

I just don't understand British comedy, aside from Monty Python. :)

Ab-fab and British comedy

Postby HiFranc on Wed Nov 24, 2004 2:00 am

Amby,

I'm British and I don' get Ab Fab.

I would recommend Bridget Jones' Diary (that's British humour), Waiting for God and, if you know your way around British politics, Yes, Minister.

If you like reading then there's:

The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

and

The Portable Door by Tom Holt
Francisco
I read several webcomics.

I do understand british commedy (it's all we ever get on ABC) but even I don't get Ab-fab.. And I've never been interested in it long enough to get the reference to the name!

Just a personal opinion here, so easy with the fire, but I hate Ab Fab. I gave it a fair shot, but it just seemed like... well... a couple of washed-out drunk women. And not much else. Maybe I didn't see enough to truly appreciate it, but I did see enough to know that I didn't want to see more. Meh.

For Brittish comedy, I personally love Red Dwarf. I never got to see the mini-series (?) of Hitchhikers Guide. I read the books tho. Absolutly loved them. And while I do enjoy Python, I'm currently a bit burned out on it. Especially the Grail. One more useless and pointless quote from that just to sound cool and I'm a gonna snap.

Don't worry, I would never start a flame war. As Voltaire said "I may disagree with everything you have to say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it."

And the washed-out drunkenness IS the point. They are caricatures of pathetic, empty-headed, self-important fashionistas. Like David from The Office, but with models and C-list celebrities. They are sooooo awful that they're incredibly funny. In the same way that Cabbage Patch Kids are soooooo ugly that they are kinda cute.

And now we are back to 80's toys -- the conversation has come full circle!

Douglas Adams is great!

As far as British politics goes, overthrow the Queen. Yeah that's as far as it goes. :D

I'll have to look into Tom Holt, and Bridget Jones' Diary I think that will have to wait until a girl wants to watch it.

Is Waiting for God the one about the female minister, or the one with the snarky old lady?
.....

I haven't heard any Python references for a while, although I was going to do one for the Spite thread.
.....

The caricature part kind of sounds like Sore Thumbs except that it's about politics rather then fashion.

Eh, my love of British humor is all about So Graham Norton. He is such a pissy Queen, it's fabulous.

And for regular TV, LOVE Changing rooms.

Dammit. Now I hafta turn CSI off so I can watch BBC America. Eesh!

It might make things a bit clearer if you cleaned up your quote tags a bit, hippie.
