Just thought I'd post some notes about this while I'm waiting to start work. Nothing profound here. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/biggrin.gif">
(<I> It's way too early in the morning for me to think straight, so apologies if sense this makes no. </I> <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/smile.gif"> )<P>1)Leaves:
No trick to this, I just dragged out a magazine photo I had and tried to copy the style of the pattern with Photoshop. Took me about 6 attempts, too. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/smile.gif">
I applied a texture to it with Photoshop afterwards to give it some apparent detail.
2)Narrow Hair:
Ceilidh's got a Braid tying her hair back there, right? <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/wink.gif">
3)Path Perspective:
...Opps. I'll pay that one. I apparently wasn't paying attention. My Bad.
(I may attempt to fix this later tonight.)
4)Smiling:
....yes, she's smiling. It *is* physically possible, y'know. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/smile.gif"><P>The original version of this was/is grayscale, because I wanted to try a 'manga' style shading piece. Then I got sidetracked. Again. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/smile.gif"><P>Oh, and I have this image in a much larger size/resolution version, if people want it.

Kickass. Just... The sidewalk is wider at the back than at the front, thanks to depth perception. 2 lines, when parallel, in a pseudo-3d picture, appear to be wider at the back, and it seems that the vanishing point is beyond the foreground. The vanishing point should be beyond the background, or in the background at a happy point for a horizon.
Don't worry. Grade 10 art students deal with that one all the time, and still do on occaision afterwards. I know, I took grade 10 art (and failed, heh).

The above might not necessarily be true, had you placed a slight curvature to the edge of the sidewalk. (this would indicate that the viewer is seeing her standing on a sloped grading, on old sidewalk.)Graded ground always f's up perspective. (this would also allow for the Foreground vanishing point.) Not all pictures are set on level ground.
Ceilidh smiling? we can only hope- she worries entirely too much.<P>------------------

I love it - I think I like it better than all your art, other than the Deirdre-sitting-there-smiling piece and the Phoebe-reading-a-book-under-a-tree piece. The smile, the stance, and the wind blowing at the hair and dress are all very appealing. Even the slight perspective problem with the sidewalk isn't noticable unless you really look.<P>------------------

First off, great pic. I was wondering though, what program/how did you get that tree shadow so detailed? Just curious.<P>Quattro<P><P>------------------

Two minor criticisms: (remember, those who can't do, critique :-)<P>- The perspective on the sidewalk seems a bit off. From the viewer's angle, I think the edges need to be parallel.<P>- Ceilidh's hair seems a bit too narrow behind her ears.<P>But definitely three thumbs up. I recommend not visiting my lab for awhile (where I'm writing this), at least until I can get the drool cleaned up... ;-)

if you were trying for a manga feel, then you should use halftones instead of solid shading.

Very nice picture. Just spectacular. Do you have a website or some other place where I can see some of your other recent fan art or drawings?
Once again. Great work. Keep it up.<P>------------------

I think that the three quarter view is perfect. Brings me back to the days of constant frustration laid upon me by the NES game Solstice. However, this is far less frustrating. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspot.com/KeenBoard/smile.gif">
