I hadn't really thought too hard about Alison's shadow comment before now, but now that I do it raises some interesting possibilities. She always has been the reserved one, at one remove from all the relationship craziness. And she has been trying to patch up the lives of all her friends. Maybe that's her overcompensating for and trying to avoid her shadow? Trying not to flirt and chase after shallow relationships?
PJH: Yeah, most guys are dorks. Yeah, most girls are manipulative harpies. Doesn't matter. As long as you're not actively hunting for a romance, but are instead looking for people with similar interests you might want to befriend, you'll find someone eventually. And, in my experience, being friends with girls is a lot more fun than chasing them was.
(Although I wouldn't seriously suggest taking romantic advice from me. )

A player, as you said. He makes no bones about it, and openly hits on anything attractive and female.
Alison has been the voice of reason. It's not so much that she DOES what Iain does as that there is a part of her that would very much like to.
And that's the Shadow. The part of you that makes you what you are by your refusal to give in to it.

Allison who is everybody's friend, despite the put downs, but nobody's SO. The confident who is never quite close.
I can relate to part of that. I moved last summer to live with uncle/aunt and although they're great school sucks. Lots of friends but no real friends. Well, not my age. Josh had better resolve this thread soon. I may need help.

/*This could also lead her to think back on her meanness toward Iain and reconsider that maybe she was inadvertantly flirting when she meant to be insulting.*/
It's the rule of negatives. When someone says, "I do not harbour perverse sexual lust for X" without being asked first, it can be interpreted as "I harbour perverse sexual lust for X."
At least, that's the way the audience will hear it. Never use negatives when you're trying to make a point, people. Double negs aren't correct, and single negs aren't effective. It's antonyms or nothing!
Sorry about the rant: I just remember one of my old high school teachers speaking *very* passionately about the subject.
Back to the topic: Has Alison been eyeing a certain guy for the last year, afraid to speak her mind? Can't wait to find out!

It could be that (and I got tired of reading through all of the posts, so someone may have said this) maybe Allison is jealous of Iain for having the guts to say that he likes a girl, unlike Alison who can't seem to tell any guy she likes how she feels. This could also lead her to think back on her meanness toward Iain and reconsider that maybe she was inadvertantly flirting when she meant to be insulting.
I dunno, just a guess. =D
~Trills the Cat
---
