1 ) He ran a clean campaign. Yes, he ran an aggressive and bombastic campaign, but did he try to smear his opponents personally? NO -- Duane went negative on HIM, and he took the accusation as a compliment. He did not respond in kind.
2 ) He magnanimously withdrew. Sure, he has ulterior motives, but did he harm anyone in doing so?
3 ) He is promiscuous -- with women who appear to have no misconceptions about his desires. Brandi and he have clear and mutually accepted rules. He thought the same about Michelle, so he's a bit dopey for making the mistake, but then again, maybe she is into it only for the nookie -- remember she has been warned by Brandi not to fall in love and she has proceeded straight to Stan with that advice in her pocket.
4 ) He appears to be a very sensitive and generous lover. Note that when he practically brags that his women are satisfied, we see Brandi nodding and we have never seen any woman say anything bad along the lines of "he used me" or "he was lousy." Note that although he clearly has had a number of women, we never see him bragging.
5 ) He doesn't run around behind friends' backs. Even though Rich clearly did not care a bit, and even though Stan himself thought it a bit foolish that he should clear it with Rich first, he did that because Rich's relationship is important to him too.
6 ) He is not above using charisma to get what he wants, but he's pretty straightforward about what he wants and we haven't seen one person say "oh he promised to do X but he instead did Y."
7 ) He doesn't talk against people. He teased Rich about Penny, and he has mentioned that Duane is a bit boring and over-intellectual and that Aggie is a stuffed-shirt about her global politics, but the first is buddies talking to each other and the other is pretty much the truth.
8 ) He is obviously completely color-blind -- his competition with Duane had nothing at all to do with race and Brandi clearly demonstrates that he has no prejudices against black women.
9 ) He's genuinely nice to Michelle. The fact that they have had intercourse is no strike against him -- she chose him, she was at least as seductive as he was, she made the first real move, and he does not appear to "notch his bedpost." I really think he intends to be helpful to her with this talk he is leading up to.
10 ) He rarely loses his cool. Watch him take care of Jack when Jack gets drunk. He is obviously well trusted by his friends, since Jack, who is drunk and belligerent, allows himself to be led away to the bathroom by Stan without fighting back.
11 ) He is genuine. Stan as candidate was pretty much Stan the Man. Look at his face when he deflowers Michelle -- no anger, no self-satisfaction, just shock and awe. Now look at him comfort her. He may or may not be or fall in love with her, but he will be a great friend to her.

Well, more thn clean I'd say "empty" he lied, he make promise that he knew he could not mantain and generally was everything a politician should not be.

Papuasblya wrote:You raise an interesting point. What does it say about us as readers if our primary reason for disliking someone is simply that he competed against someone we liked in a contest? Or that he used different, but apparently equally acceptable rules, in that contest?Kitsuiko wrote:With all of the Stan-dislike that happened before, I'm kind of glad to see that most people aren't trying to find a way to make him evil here too. Actually, I saw this strip as an immediate follow-up to Monday's, as though Stan cries out, "Why???" and rolls off her right away. I could be wrong, though.
Anyone else still a bit put off by the implication that a hot girl must not value her virginity, be willing to sleep with "any" guy, and seems to be expected to do so?
