Marshalls little problem?

Postby Trollroot on Thu Sep 28, 2006 9:44 am

You know, i was wondering about the "My eyes are up here" line. And wondering what kind of man would have a problem with his girlfriend looking at his erection.
And I had a notion. A man who believes he has a severe size problem would react like that.

When I was a teen everyone went through a phase of believeing we were smaller than everyone else. Today, there are porn stars on the net to confirm to the youth that this is indeed the case.

Marshall could be a perfectly normal young man with an unfortunate conviction that he does not measure up.

Which would explain both why being seen as a sex object by the girls annoy him (he imagines that he will be a laughing stock when the pants come off).
And why he spends so much time in the gym (compensating)

And also why he has such a reaction to Karen looking at him in the shower.

He could be ashamed of his penis.

OR! Maybe... Maybe he's turned on by Karen, but he doesn't want to have sex yet, and he was incredibly pissed that she can't get that through her think skull and respect his wishes.

I would call that possible, based on many conversations I have had with male friends. A guy might know pornstars are not quite normal, but knowing that doesn't make you worry any less. Given the compensation theories you laid out for us and his mysterious sex issues, he might be a little shy.

'Course, Karen doesn't seem to agree with that. [I wish there was a :dirty old man leer: icon]

On this note, it has, er, come up during this discussion that Karen has (apparently) never seen Marshall with an erection before. I feel the need to point out that "has never seen" is not the same as "he has never had." Granted, the man does wear sweatpants now and again, but if my friends have taught me nothing, it's that you pick up on ways of concealing a boner by the time you're Marshall's age. That plus the fact that Karen really is rather inexperienced suggests to me that she'd probably miss it if he hid it. Which of course, being bashful ol' Marshall, he would.

Also, it's just possible that Marshall has something called 'modesty', and doesn't like anyone he doesn't have the 'Nudity Comfort Level' with ogling his privates. Seriously, my BF in high school got embarrassed when he got an erection when he was clothed. Me staring at it might just make it worse. And he was straight, very interested in sex, and had no personal hang-ups about his cock.

Some guys are shy, or have larger privacy bubbles. Just like girls! Some people just aren't comfortable with full-on nudity with an audience, and with Marshall standing at full attention like that, it can't be easy for him.

There's also the fact that he's in a public place. Or that he's made it clear that he doesn't want to deal with the sex issue at this point in his life, and Karen is once again Not Getting It. Or that he's losing control. Or that he's frustrated that Karen is too busy thinking of sex to listen to him. he may just be using 'my eyes are up here' as an ironic line to make a point.

It doesn't have to mean he has insecurities or issues or trauma or anything!

Little?

Even if she has never seen a live one before, and she probably has not, Karen's reaction in the third panel should dispel any suggestions as to size issues. It couldn't be any plainer if her tongue was out and she was going "woof woof" like Madeleine Kahn in Young Frankenstein. Marshall walks tall.

At least she didn't start singing:
"Ah! Sweet mistery of life: at last I've found thee!"
The sound of rolling dice
To me is music in the air!
'Cause I'm a gamblin' Boogie Man
Although I don't play fair!
