Endangered Species

Just wanted to take a moment for a serious matter, and to post an appeal for my personal favorite endangered animal; the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus.

Huh? I think it IS a joke! It's not even mentioned in Douglas Adam's "Last Chance to See", his book on endangered species... :-?
And it doesn't make sense either...

OK, it's obviously fake, I'm no expert in Biology but a tree octupus is as feasable as a sea squirrel...

With some humor, calling for an explanation can be even more humorous than the jest. I once - during a "schmooze" session, sprung this one: "I tried nude photography - and I damn near FROZE!!"
The receiver looked at me - and in all seriousness, came back with, "No, no -- the model is supposed to be ..."
All I could think of was, "Oh Great Giggling ... I've got to explain it to him..."

While we're at it ... what does the group think of a maturely done ("adult" wouldn't be the word) animated Wapsi Square movie?? I've got a few $M's I'd invest in that one...

I've been working (sic) on a simple animated gif of Monica (OK, I grafted her head onto an existing animation) -- does that count?

It'd be fun to see a Wapsi movie all right. Any suggestions on who'd be the voices of the various characters?

However, in order for this to happen, we'd have to subsidize Pablo -- donate enough to allow him to leave his job and devote himself full time to cartooning. This has actually happened, in very different ways, recently at The Wotch and earlier this year at Schlock Mercenary. I pushed the "Support Wapsi" button (ooooh) recently.

There is something to keep one's mind occupied ... I've been thinking about suitable voiceovers...

James Earl Jones for Tepoz...?

Charo for one of the Golem girls... ?

Difficult. One has these internal images of the characters....

I don't know why - but Janine Garafalo for Monica..?

Probably the most well-executed hoax of its type that I've ever found.

Yes, the endangered tree octopus site is really excellent. I wish I knew more rabid enviromentalists to send it to...

I recall there was once a very nicely-done website about a nonexistent skyscraper hotel and its rich and amazing history. Even after you figured out that it was a hoax it was still fun to read.

Funny, funny stuff. The Cascadia Evening Post cover is a wonderful touch, very authentic. I could never accomplish something so subtle; I'd probably wind up going with the Northern Atlantic Chestburster or the Speckled Colon Mole...
