Help! (Flash file keeps growing in filesize somehow)

When you delete something out of the library, does it actually get deleted or just go somewhere else? Because I've been working on a cartoon and the filesize is ridiculously huge, but every single time I try to delete some sounds, condense them, and import them again, the size INCREASES. It's at 95 MB now. WTF!?

EDIT:I copy/pasted all frames from all scenes to a new file and it's at a reasonable size now, but I still feel stupid and would still like the explanation for this.

When you delete a sound from the libarium, it won't reduce the file size like you says.

goto File -> save and compact

and that will reduce the file size without having to copy and paste

Just one more way Macromedia makes your life easier!

The frame limit isn't a defect, it's a feature.

I don't have a "save and compact" under file? It's not the newest version of flash, it's one that was given to me. Bluh.

Help!

Postby Biosin on Sun Aug 27, 2006 8:18 am

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me?

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.

This sounds like something out of the Twilight Zone.

Submitted for your approval, a SWF file that just keeps growing out of control.

Okay, it's been a couple of months since I posted this and the problem is not solved. I have no compress option in my version of MX and every cartoon I make is coming out to 5 or even 12 MB no matter the length and I know they don't have much more content than the average Space Tree or larger Strong Bad Emails (then again, how big ARE those?)

Maybe it's my settings when I record the voices? I thought Flash compressed all sounds exactly the same though?

Well, Strong Bads are supposedly kept at around a megabyte, so your file shouldn't be as large as it is. Nothing should. (EDIT: Sorry. I thought you said 99.4 MB, not 9.94. 9.94 is much more realistic, and slightly reasonable.)

If it IS the sound (which sounds very likely. I didn't compress my sound once, and it was around 25 MB. After compressing the sound it was less than 1 MB) then you should find an option in the publish settings to override sound settings. Then you can set the audio streams and audio events, making all the sounds compress exactly the same. Try going with 24 kbps.
