[DISC] Final Fantasy RP

Games, RP, general Mayhem (within reason, of course)

Moderators: TingYi, anti-paragon, DarkShive

And now all my brain comes up with is a traveling troupe of bards, in order to salvage the core concept of the game. They're all the base classes, but also bards. Like the Fighter beats people with his guitar, the Thief is... well, bards already double as thieves. The Monk uses a rhythm based martial art, and all the Mages play music to cast their spells.

Totally awesome.

Ok, I thought and thought, but I just came to the conclusion I actually need more world description. Especially what's up with the classes who gives out Red mage licenses? And with the warriors of light thing, Is that some sort of secret order? Do they have a badge or something?
What's the tech level? How much magic is there? What kind of Governments are there, or is everybody hiding in caves?
etc etc etc.

I was not exaggerating when I said I do not have the slightest clue about Final Fantasy.
Need to look up something about my chars? Here's the list: Characters List (Updated 4/5/11)

oh wow that is little knowledge okay here we go.

nokvok wrote:what's up with the classes who gives out Red mage licenses?
it was just a general way to decide up your stats. So for a red mage you can claim that you were trying to master all schools of magic while being a sell sword, or claim that you are a jack of all trades master of none

nokvok wrote:And with the warriors of light thing, Is that some sort of secret order? Do they have a badge or something??
that's not really explained as its implied. essentially we where picked by destiny and acquired the orbs somehow. me i say i inherited my orb

nokvok wrote:What's the tech level?
mystic medieval

nokvok wrote:How much magic is there? ?
there is a white magic shop and a black magic shop in almost every town

nokvok wrote:What kind of Governments are there,?
its all kings and queens

nokvok wrote:or is everybody hiding in caves??
only a few strange NPC do

Thanks mandros, that explains the basic gist of things as far as those questions go. Here are the maps I promised earlier (all maps) which will also be posted into the first post.

Maps =/= Description

Unlabled maps of the gameworld are only useful to people who already know the game. And if they already know the game, then they don't really need that description (if you're just copy-pasting the game). The people asking for descriptions aren't helped at all by those maps.

Or to put it another way: Pretend you are the only person who has played the game. Ever. Now, describe the world and setup to us people who have never heard of this "final fantasy" thing. (Because some of the people here actually haven't.)

Except they have airships. Nothing else in the setting on par though, including any number of technological advances that probably would have had to precede the invention of a large scale flying machine.
Just airships.
BECAUSE ITS EVERY FINAL FANTASY DOES.

It's best not to think too hard abou--.

Wait, FF1's Cid was noncanon until Dissidia.

Hell yes, I'm down for this RP.

I count "completely out of place airship" as a core FF element. As much as moogles and chocobos.

Either that or he already found that one and took it apart to build his own. Either or.

Alternatively, grab me on AIM, nokvok. As the resident moogle I am unfortunately an expert on Final Fantasy (through 10, at least, but after 9 the series turned to crap in a damn hurry). I can bounce answers back atcha, and maybe we can work on character concepts or something. Who knows!

Also I'm still on the fence. Debating on whether or not I want to play the setting's first moogle instead. :3

Perhaps a time traveling moogle?

They retconned them into FF2 in one of the remakes, I believe.

I kinda figured they were there, but nobody noticed them because the game world had so many invisible walls and forests you couldn't actually explore.

Well, I got some clues now. Going to just throw together a Char and see what needs to being changed.
[[Bio]]

Name: Maud Fathiyya
Age: 23 (or an age typical for elves with an alike level of maturity)
Class: Monk
Height: 6''
Weight: 180 lbs
Hair color: n.A. (black)
Eye color: black
Birthplace: Sout ai Temi Al'Achmed Sunni. The monastery in the shadow of the fiery Mount Temi where the woman-monks of the order of the Al'Achmed Sunni teach their secret fighting techniques to the most worthy pupils.
Race: Elf
Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: Maud is a tall, sturdy woman with darkly tanned skin and the big eyes and tipped ears typical for her race. She's in obviously good shape and does not hide that either... wearing a rather skimpy light, soft leather armor. Her head is bald, completely shaved of any hair, instead tattooed with the symbols of her order in red and black.

Equipment: Armor, excotic weaponry (nun-chakus, hide-out katar, three-spiked shurikans), bag with cantrops, bag with smoke-bombs, bag with herbal tea, bag with bandages.

Strengths: Dodging, Reflexes, Hand to Hand, Hand to Weapon, Flails, Throwing, Willpower, Awareness
Weaknesses: Deduction, Teamwork, Deception.

History: Maud is a foundling. Dropped on the steps to the monastery from her parents who seemed to flee the lands in a hurry. One of the monks took her in as daughter and taught and trained her until she was old and skilled enough to absolve the actual secret training. She is not overly talented, so her first lesson was to never give up and set all her willpower to the task. Only through the hardest possible training she advanced from rank to rank. Today she is a full fledged Monk and free to leave the monastery to wander, learn and seek wisdom... or find fate.

Monk's are well known for their hand to hand and non lethal weapon skills. I'm gonna go ahead and say that the Katar and Shuriken are not available to your class. Also, Cantrops and Smoke Bombs would be more suited towards the Thief class, don't you think?

This is very interesting. I got into the Final Fantasy series at 6 and am currently going through 1 myself. I've never posted a character bio before but...here goes nothing. Please tell me how I can improve it.

Name: Svan de Calt
Age: 25
Class: Black Mage
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 174
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Amber
Birthplace: Gaia
Race: Human
Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: He wears a purple robe that was given to him in his younger years and it ends just a little past his knees, revealing simple black pants underneath. His dark boots are plain and durable, having been made with function over fashion in mind.

Equipment: Staff, small knife, spell book, bag of potions, stuffed bunny plush, bag of books

Strengths: Intelligent, practical

Weaknesses: Childish, somewhat proud, sleeps like the dead

History: Svan first discovered his talent for magic as a child when he accidentally froze a bunny he was trying to catch it as a pet. A local black magic shop owner noticed the young prodigy and took him up as an apprentice. Now an adult, Svan travels the world, unaware that the winds of change are upon him as his boat, bound for Pravoka, ends up at the port of Corneira.

So what class would my char rather need to be to get Katars and shurikens? Cause I rather switch classes then redefining character concepts. The 'theme' is more Ninja than Shaolin, despite the shaved head.
Glimpsing over the bio of the thief I got the feeling they are not especially needed for 'our' thief, though if they are, I of course leave cantrops and smokebombs to him.

well there is a ninja class after the 'class advance' we get from bahamut, though that may be drastically altered for the RP. its the advanced form of thief in the game they didn't have the throw ability so they got low level black magic but once again that may be drastically altered for the RP. if not then you could be a fighter that prefers or is trained in exotic weaponry. this is all my opinion mind you
