[DISC] Final Fantasy RP

Postby BahamutWings on Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:45 am

Alright, so I'm pretty (extremely) familiar with the first Final Fantasy story/game and I've read the entire 8-bit Theare comic. Also, I'd like to try my hand at GMing once more. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to center the following prologue, but nothing's perfect.

The world is veiled in darkness.
The wind stops,
The sea is wild,
The earth begins to rot.
The people wait,
their only hope
a prophecy...
'When the world is in darkness
Four Warriors will come...'
After a long journey,
four young warriors arrive,
each holding an ORB.

I'm not going to limit this RP to four warriors of light because that seems a little unfair. Perhaps I will also include the choice to be a warrior of darkness. Whatever, here's the character sheet. You may choose from the six classes from the first game, however the races are anything you can think of from the universe.

Name:
Age:
Class:
Height:
Weight:
Hair color:
Eye color:
Birthplace:
Race:
Alignment:
Appearance:
Equipment:
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
History:

EDIT: Here is a link to all the maps in the game as per request. Also, I should have done this initially.

Okay, I loved the comic, but I have to remind you that there were many groups. By the end, you had the 'Light Warriors', the 'Real Light Warriors', the Dark Warriors, the Forest Warriors or whatever they were called, and the group of Clerics. And I think there was another, the group of demons or eldritch abominations or something. Besides that, you still had WM and BB tagging along for most of it, so its not like you are limited to just four.
Mayhem: We're not crazy, you're just too sane.

Current avatar: That would be Tyrion. Or his head, at any rate.

funny thing after asking my question i came up with a character idea that fits into the first Final Fantasy character template (with a little tweaking to actually give him a back story)

So There we go, I'm not limiting this to four warriors of light. An of the above things would work, since the're working towards ridding the world of darkness. Except those gus who are working for the dark side. eah.

Well, you've got the basic story up in italics in the first post, I suppose a labeled map would be helpful, as would a description of the six available classes. Our job as light warriors will be to rid the world of Chaos and restore order to the land. You've also got the basic six classes; Warrior, Monk, Thief, and the White Black and Red Mages. Warriors and Monks are mostly self explanatory; Warriors are proficient in weapons like swords, axes, maces and hammers and wear metal armor to provide defence while Monks are good with nunchaku, but are more suited to using there bare hands and wear lite armor. Thieves are proficient in using thin or short swords, and knives, and are the fastest class but are restricted to using lite armor like the Monk. White Mages are proficient at using healing magic, wielding Hammers and cannot equip anything but cloth armor. Black Mages are virtually the same as White Mages, however they are proficient in using offencive magic and wielding staves and knives. Red Mages are my personal favorite class because of their versatility; they are proficient in wielding swords as well as Warriors, and they can use both healing and offencive magics. Even though Red Mages are as versatile as they are, they do not specialize in any of the subjects they practice.

ok hows this

Name: "rat" (he is self named and not very imaginative)
Age: adult that’s all you need to know according to rat
Class: thief
Height: 5'8"
Weight: thin
Hair color: light gray
Eye color: green
Birthplace: Coneria
Race: human
Alignment: lawful good
Appearance: he is a short thin man who always wearing a cloak. Hidden under the hood is a blank gray mask three lines drawn on each side that resemble whiskers. he is rather pale and has gray hair both evidence of his life of hiding in the shadows
Equipment: cloak with hood (also known as cloth armor), mask, knife
Strengths: stealth and pickpocketing
Weaknesses: he is not very strong and has no magic ability
History: as a child he grew up as a homeless orphan, living every day off what little food he could steal and giving what he had to the other abandoned children. Even though he was a thief he still had a code of honor which was one, never steal more then you needed and two never kill unless you have to. As he grew older he took over an abandoned shack just outside the city of Coneria in the woods, it was made into a home for other such people. As he grew older he took to wearing a mask under his hood whenever he went in to town to hide his face from the guards. He is now more of a member of a group he use to lead then a mentor. he has no reason to leave nor does he have reason to stay.

Guess I can't use my 'King of the Street Rats' idea I was tossing around :P

Hmm... I feel pulled to play a character identical to one of the 8bit characters, but those worked best as a dynamic group. And when I think about them, I think of the ONLY person in the world dumber than Fighter. Black Belt, who was so dumb, he got SO lost on his way to the bathroom that he lost himself in the space-time continuum, creating a duplicate of himself with a 1 second delay. And the bathroom was just at the other end of the hall!

I'll go with yes. i left it open for debate if this picks up and four other people show up who are more suited for the position leaving him an excuse to follow along despite not being a light warrior

well it would be hard to really derail this unless you really try i mean the plot to ff1 was as bare bones as you can get so long as the good guys kill several big bads eventually. if you want to get technically you can grind for an in game year before the first boss (if you consider an in game day to be resting in a tent/cabin/house?/inn) you will be really over leveled but it still works in game

If your goal is more people, I'd say to throw the doors open and approve/deny on a case-by-case basis. That may be a little crazy, though. A second set would be a good start, as long as these classes do something different than what's already available. (Like, Warrior or Cleric would both be moot, since we already have Fighter and White Mage.)

I personally am not used to class systems at all, so a case by case approval would be neat, I could just make a character and then figure out a class after seeing the result.
Or are the classes actually in game features? Like there being Guilds or official 'Red-Mage-Diploma' or something?

I just picked up FFD6, I could make two dozen characters just because. But I'm not too interested in playing this one if the concept is just going to be half FF1 (a boring game) and 8-bit Theater (a funny comic but one that's over and done with). And I'm kinda getting the feeling it's gonna be just that.

And it depends, nokvok. Most of the games refer to the various Jobs by name (they're called Jobs in every game but the first two, maybe they ARE professions), so you can at least know that they're known in game.
Personally I look at everything in the FF universes as being self-aware. Everyone has a Job and knows it, damage numbers are visible, everyone looks at equip menus rather than getting dressed... that kinda thing.
