Ask Ting Yi: Beyond the Eight-Ball!

Postby TingYi on Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:16 pm

That's right. I've decided I've been on these forums long enough I should be a deity. And why am I not? Well I think it was the long break where I had a kid. Hmm. Either way I am now on a very important quest. And to aid in my quest I need some sort of non-spammy way to get there. So I came up with an idea.
I will now answer any and all questions. (provided they fit the forum rating of course!)

I'm like a magic eight ball. I can predict past present and future! Come one! Come all! Ask away!

Edit: Yeah I reached my goal, but you can still ask questions.

Spend more time listening to Malachy19. The man is a genius at finding RPing flaws and helping you improve them.

Don't always just make a char you want to be. Make a char that is interesting and fully developed and STAY IN CHARACTER. Sometimes its more fun to let yourself get hurt or lose or fail than it is to be the best at everything.

Don't RP Spam. Save discussions on anime and whatever for other threads. Keep it interesting and well thought out. RPing on a forum is like writing a story. Good exposition always helps as well as good dialogue. If your post is only a few words you can probably wait a bit until you have more to add.

Why the hell does everyone think Mal is awesome, and not just a guy with a big ego who talks like a 16 year old girl on AIM?

Thats not to say you are great yet. I remember before when you Rped like Kgirl. Now you just forget to spell and grammar check like her. Also, your character in the Exalt RP (Lets face it, that's what it has become.) is full and full of clinches and one-dimensional-ness (?).

Hell, I know, I had this guy planned out for a while, it looks good on papers, a super solider with issues, but mabye I'm not RPing him right, as for spelling, I don't have spelling on both my accounts, and even then it doesn't do grammer.

These two are never compatible. And don't bring in The Cap. He is over rated, but he was the first one so it's okay. Otherwise those two quotes should never go together.

Your character is a over-used concept. Why not make him a grizzled space marine?

So no matter what, a super solider with issues is a bad idea.

O Great And Wise TingYi:
I am reading a long fantasy series. Should I take a break from the the series long enough to read Watership Down, read Watership Down at the same time as the series, or finish the series and begin Watership Down when I'm done?

Age sweetens all things.
I agree that Mal is probably one of the best RP'ers on the forums, though he could stand to type slower and make fewer accidental typos. And while likely one of the best story writers and a very good GM, I've yet to be in a Mal RP that I liked as much as most others I'm in. I blame that the overall quality of an RP drops in my eyes for every extra person over the first 6-8.
The sheer awesome factor of Myriad Genesis may make it the one to break the rule, though, despite ZOMGPEOPLES. Hopefully that'll make up for jumping in almost after most of the cool stuff has already happened. ^^;

First things first:
I didn't say Mal was the best RPer. I said he's good at spotting people's flaws in their style. That's different. Best RPer is FaweFC. Definitely.

My domains shall probably be evil, evil, and more evil. Perhaps Evil Babies too. We'll see.

Main Characters will be the main characters. Duh. And don't shake the Ting Yi. She shakes it on her own.

No I can't put it in laymans terms. Pshaw. I only use evil terms.

I don't think they can take it somewhere else. Maybe their stuck here! Uh oh.

You should read both. Not two books at once. But take a break now and then to enjoy Watership Down. After all, it's good to expand your horizons.

I have exactly 432 puppets. Specifically on the forum? I think just Mal admits to being my puppet. All others are waiting for the subliminal message to start acting like the puppets they really are.

And no you're not the only one.

You should proofread your posts. Seriously. That goes back to your previous question of how to RP better. That's how I'm justifying answering it.

Anyone with bother with me? I mean come on. It takes a few seconds to proofread and there is even an edit function.
