Clarification...

Postby AwakeAndAlive1 on Tue Jun 22, 2004 5:57 pm

So wait...I'm confused. Is dale Emo or Goth? 'Cause I assumed he was goth. Is it that Courtney's just so "mainstream" she can't tell the difference? Or am I just completely off base...which is more than likely the case?

Explain "emo" to those of us born prior to 1985.

Hey, I was born in '81 so don't blame me. I just know it when I see/hear it.

I was born in 1977 and I know what emo is.

Emo, like goth, is a type of punk rock music/fashion/lifestyle.
Also like goths, emo kids tend to be sad ALL THE TIME.
They can be recognized by their moppy hair, "vintage" (i.e. thrift shop) clothing, horn-rimmed glasses, and converse canvas shoes (or converse knock-offs).

What is...The Emo?

Postby AwakeAndAlive1 on Fri Jun 25, 2004 4:47 pm

Actually, Emo-folk tend to be bitter and outraged all the time, no matter what's going on. It's as though they were all from Berkeley, California.

Wheras Goths tend to be more nihilistic and emotional, the gentle Emo is known for his sour disposition and for being outspoken on any and all political/social topics. You got it spot-on with the clothing and hair. Also, their clothing tends to be too small for them, which if they're skinny results in a humorous, gawky appearence and if they're not...well, it's just rather sad.

That's just based on the Emo-rockers I've known from the two coasts. I'm sure the ones in between run the gamut from cheery to moribund.
