Initial thoughts from two archive marathons

Postby HiFranc on Sun Nov 07, 2004 4:08 pm

I was looking for something new and I know that some of the webcomic artists I like reading like QofW so I thought I'd give it a try.

Being used to Clan of the Cats I wasn't sure what I was expecting. The early inclusion of the Grammar Nazi almost made me stop reading it as something like that is something that is designed to appeal to the mid-teens market.

That aside, I'm glad I carried on. As I read it, I realised that I was reading a smart character driven story that feels "real" and has characters you care about. Like CotC, the humour is character based and I found myself laughing out loud as I read them.

Yep I found Queen of Wands after some crossovers with Something Positive.

Started reading the archive, and it was history.

I'm addicted. :( Kinda sad that it has an ending

Ending

Postby HiFranc on Mon Nov 08, 2004 2:46 pm

When I found out the strip had an end date I was shocked but...

a) the artist has to fit the comic in with their life.

I refer readers to this thread.

and

b) those who've seen Buffy know that the reason why Buffy, the series, died was because the studio tried to keep it going when it had run out of ideas.

I'll be sad to see Queen of Wands end but I expect it will end on a high note.

Yeah I realize that a story has to end sometime, and it is essentially a story. Just kinda sad. Like when "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" went off the air. :P

Webcomics and ending

That's not necessarily the case...

Take, for example, Clan of the Cats. Jamie has written it in such a way that he should be able to keep going for years. I keep joking with him that the current fans will be introducing our gran-children to the strip. He may stop before-hand but I hope not... :)

It starts with one then the next thing you know it takes an hours to check all of the webcomics you have bookmarked.

Check 2 forums. Post there.
Check all webcomics.
Check webcomic forum.
Post here.
If time is left, refresh at all forums.
Post if necessary.
If time is left, continue to refresh.

Last resort:

Find another webcomic archive to read through.

Heh, I counted up all my webcomics a few weeks ago...I'm in the 30s. I posted a page of my own up on my personal site with links to all of them, 'cause if I had that as a fave places menu at work, I'd probably get busted. My boss doesn't mind me surfing too much as long as it doesn't go nuts, and 30+ comics is nuts.

I haven't caught up in CotC in a while...guess I won't be doing much by way of work today! *glee*

I read 6 webcomics (4 of which are on Keenspot).

I'm very fussy when it comes to webcomics (or fiction in general) so Aeire's work must be good (or at least my taste). I used to read one or two others but I've changed my mind about them.

No, I'm about there...

I have 30+ I check in on daily(just in case), about 15 of which I post in the forums for, and another 20 or so I check in on once a week.

God I love Firefox. Bookmarks>Webcomics>Daily>Open in Tabs

:D

My entire favourites list is under that figure... Does this mean there's something wrong with me? Or is that a seperate issue!

No, no. There's nothing wrong with you. You're very much normal.

*continues placating the looney while the nice men in white coats sneak up on her*

Actually, I'm kidding. There are those who have relatively little in terms of an "Online Life"(as compared to, say, a real life). It dosen't make you odd or strange. There are many more like you for whom the internet is merely a passing distraction, rather than a way of life (like me :D)

Thank you for making me feel normal.

On the other hand, it's a little worrying when you write a quiz about your favourite web comic and, when you post it to the forum of that comic, the artist says that he can't answer the questions!

I was beginning to wonder if I'd said good bye to a thing called "having a life"...
