Seriously, remind me, if the Lost Treasure of Luana is only the map to the Heart of Magic, and they're already sitting there at the door to the Heart of Magic, and Dom refuses to allow Luana and Rilian to detonate their souls in a sacrifice play, then why do we need to worry that they're about to lose the MacGuffin?

It's not the map, it's the key.

They found the door to the Heart of Magic. The Treasure was only a Map to people with strong Second Sight, or maybe it's just with people with visions.

Before he got dragged into this, Bort was planning on spending a noneventful week hunting down Sentient clouds and farming spuds.

Well in that case, it falling into the Elemecca to parts unknown is even better because the Beast can't get in without it.

So again, why should we care? As long as the Beast doesn't have it, the universe keeps chugging along.

Makes me wonder if this is actually his genuine April Fool's comic. Hell, ANY of them make me think that.

Anyway, to answer your question: Because Mookie wanted to pretend there was some tension in today's comic instead of crippling boredom.
