The King doesn't have any reason to believe Ara's still alive. Neither do we for that matter. We only have the meta reason of Mookie wouldn't kill Nimmel off panel (or probably at all). However, that meta line of reasoning only applies to Nimmel, so, as far as I'm concerned, we have absolutely no reason to believe Ara is still alive. Also, I really hope this is a ploy by Rilian. Otherwise, the enchantment that left the archmages "weak" and "brittle" enough so that Milov could stand up to them with his moon shield, didn't make one weak enough so the first necromancer could stand up to it (something I think he probably ought to have a fair shot at anyway).

You forget, Milov and Jayden are based off Mookie's friends. Their normal nigh-indestructible plot armor that comes from being a friend of the Deegans is increased 1,000 fold.
