I'm torn. On the one hand, Nimmel's utter loyalty to his friends is what earned him a place in Milov's court. On the other, I find myself a little tired of the utter moral certainty the protagonists always seem to have. Nimmel dreamed of becoming a respected magus. Why couldn't the Archmagi's offer have given him a little more of a moral quandary?

No, he's not considering the offer just yet. It's quite possible he's going to have his eye gouged out and watch his friends get torn to pieces in front of him before he sells them out, because that's been demonstrated to work.

Or rather "Do what you must to live, and get revenge later, because you are powerless in this situation and can only cry, coward" or something like that that he'll try to justify as an act of bravery afterwards when deep in his heart it's because he didn't want to hurt any more (etc etc)

Or he somehow saves the day, who knows?

Stupidity has its own infinite continuum, from bordering on the brain dead to just shy of normal.

So he has the ability to create that giant explosion, he has an opprotunity to completely suckerpunch and kill our Protagonist... and he misses? Furthermore, Jayden and co are completely ambushed yesterday yet all that happens is little explosions happen around the meaty part of their extremities?

Eh, why am I complaining? It'll just be revealed that they didn't WANT to kill anyone the whole time and just wanted to wound them.

Yep, Mookie needs more characters who are psychopaths. Seriously, why should that be a moral quandary? If it was something bad, but not as obviously bad as his friends being murdered, I'd get it. My comment was sarcastic, but not at all exaggerated. I definitely believe you would need to be a psychopath for an offer lie that to give you pause while your supposed friends are dying. I grant that Mookie has far too many goody two shoes character, but I think this is a poor example. I would only expect that from someone who has previously exhibited such behavior. Someone like Celesto or Neilen.

Tomorrow it's revealed that Snowrunt was aiming for the archmage, saved Nimmel's life, all Deegan friends are fine, and that the archmage doing the exploding was a jock when it was in HS.

If the archmage turns out to be a jock, I'll be convinced Mookie's just trying to mess with this forum.

Considering that kings of their days were well trained fighting machines, there would sadly be justification of an archmage being a jock. That said, let's hope Mook didn't do his research and realize that.
