I think this is the point where the villains are so close to the goal they are beyond caring about subterfuge.
And many NPCs were murdered that day. Or saved by a massive plot device, who can say?

Yeah. I don't think anyone cares about whether they need subterfuge in and of itself. Yet they certainly wouldn't waste time specifically targeting those who threaten to expose the king, unless there was still some need to keep it under wraps. While this action doesn't necessarily indict the king in any clear way, it seems ridiculously foolhardy to try to silence enemies with a dramatically visible show of force.

Well this might explain why Rilian sent Jayden to the Archipelago . If he knew that the King was going to send the last Archmage to nuke the cathedral. Rilian has been curiously well informed of all of the going ons, to spite not being a Seer OR a Deegan.

He does... or did have access to a magical scrying pool in a ancient city buried in the desert that apparently had been trying capturing God's Face/The Heart of Magic before it become buried or a desert. Hell I bet he was originally from there before it shit got ruined.

You act like Rilian being revealed to be an ancestor of the Deegans isn't a possibility.
