Yep, Heather's got a clue. And I don't think there's any real surprise about Shellys bone structure.

"Tell her partner..." Sounds like people already think they make a cute couple. :)

HAH! Yeah, I caught that, too.

d.g., she's OK...
I am still in the thrall of one insatiable desire, which hitherto I have been neither able nor willing to check. I cannot get enough books. It may be that I have already more than I need, but it is with books as it is with other things: success in acquisition spurs the desire to get still more. Books, indeed, have a special charm. Gold, silver, gems, purple raiment, a house of marble, a well-tilled field, paintings, a steed with splendid trappings -- things such as these give but a silent and superficial pleasure. Books delight us through and through, they talk with us, they give us good counsel, they enter into a living and intimate companionship with us. What is more, not only does a book win the reader's affection for itself, but it mentions the names of other books, so that one stirs the desire for another. Francesco Petrarca (1346)

I guess the tricky part will be if Shelly is going to be comfortable with being called that. Or Heather, for that matter.

I almost never post, but Hoo Rah for no damage!! Double Hoo Rah for partners! I have a feeling that everyone will be more cool with it than Shelly. The term that is, not all the things it means.
Anyone think what Owen is going to say? Shelly has always been single, think he might get jealous of his best friends new Romance?

In my opinion our esteemed artist has handled this particular potential relationship with appropriate style so far. 8)

What?!?!?

Postby milwaukee8 on Mon May 02, 2005 5:10 am

Whaaaa? Why would the doctor call her a "partner"? Do they just assume that all girls that come into the ER are dating each other?

Funny about the skull tho.

Since when does partner mean girlfriend and not simply friends? :-?

Since when does "Howdy partner" = "Hello sailor"?

I agree. The doctor saying "Partner" is just too coincidental. I would think a medical doctor would err on the side of caution and say "friend". This assumption plays on all the medical shows where doctors make these errors in relationships.

Hey, Im all for Shelly and Heather getting together, but this is laying it on a bit thick.

Well I had the feeling that the incident happened in the middle of the night. Maybe they figure that someone around someone else in the middle of the night is a partner or a burgular.
And despite what Spider Robinson thinks, most burgulars won't call 911.

Edit-
After reviewing the strips again, nevermind. I don't have a clue.

I can see a wonderful double-take moment when the doctor refers to Heather as Shelly's partner in front of both of them, or vice versa. :D

Given the language Heather used in the last panel, it could be interpreted either way... especially if she's been acting and talking like that since Shelly went in.

Was just about to note that. Also, Heather may have fibbed to stay with her through everything. Some hospitals don't care if you're medical trained to some degree and are only wanting to be there to know the kind of care the person will need afterward, immediate family only. I imagine it's simply the way Heather has behaved though.

Wow, that's a BIG sig there, AP. :)

I've never been with anyone to the ER. Urgent care, yes, but not the ER. And they let me in after a little while. That seemed to be the way it went when a friend of my brother's ended up in the hospital recently, too. They kept the patient to themselves for a bit, until they'd figured out what was going on, and then they let the people who called and checked them in to come visit. But I guess I really don't know.

She's not really with Shelly right now, though, since they're talking about her in the third person. So maybe the doctor came out to tell Heather because Shelly's still out cold. I just don't see Heather as the kind of lady who'd lie.

Gotta love the glasses on Dr. Kramer. :D And the comment from the first doctor makes me laugh every time!!

Gives all the junior keens a cookie. And throws small nerf footballs at Burger.

Glad to see you feeling bettter.
