I think Rat's argument for why they should be the stars is a bit, well, stupid. It's like saying Chief Dan Matthews/Broderick Crawford should have been the star of Star Trek, as Roddenberry wrote scripts for Highway Patrol first. Appearing in an earlier work does not give one dibs on the leading role in all future works. They're lucky to even have had cameos.

Though I have to wonder, taking a look at the earliest EGS comics, just how bad was Dan's artwork way back in Junior High when those two were created?

Something like this.
MARTIN: What?
DANIEL: Okay. One, that's Star Trek; and two, it's ridiculous.
MARTIN: What's wrong with it?
CARTER: "The singularity is about to explode?"
MARTIN: Yes.
CARTER: Everything about that statement is wrong.
DANIEL: How exactly is having weapons at maximum going to help the situation?
MARTIN: The audience isn't going to know the difference. They love: "weapons at maximum."
MITCHELL: Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment.
TEAL’C: I do not understand why everything in this script must inevitably explode.
MARTIN: Look, you guys may all know how things really work out there in the galaxy, but I know the film business. Explosions make great trailers. Simple fact. More explosions, better trailer. Better trailer, more viewers.

I have discovered that Death Note + Lucky Star = awsome.
Here's more proof.

Well it might have been like that, but Matt and Rat were created while Dan was in Junior High, and those comics were from when he was in High School. Sure, potentially there could be very little time or art difference. On the other hand there could have been years in between with plenty of time for a drastic shift in art style.

Chronos: Funny how Tedd doesn't want to break the fourth wall anymore.

As for Mat and Rat being the "rightful" stars of all future works by Dan... Well, I suppose one does develop a certain fondness for one's first creations...

Oh, and denim is far cooler than flannel.

Crystal: This seems a lot more out of place in retrospect, knowing how serious Sister turned out to be in the end.
