So, Elliot thinks of those kind of attacks as trendy? So is it popular among the students there or something? If so I can just imagine Nanase insisting she used those techniques before they were cool. Though come to think of it I have seen something like it used in anime a few times before.

Also, if that's specifically Nanase's "Look at me, I just kicked Elliot" victory pose I wonder what some of her other ones look like.

Come to think of it, you're right. I find myself wondering what Dan's influences were when he came up with that line. When I started reading EGS, the only anime I'd seen was Cowboy Bebop and the Dragonball pilot: Curse of the Blood Rubies. (Oh yeah, and Ninja Scroll. :shudder: ) I figured that must just be really common in anime, or something.

Since then, I've seen Trigun, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo (etc.), Love Hina, Samurai Champloo, Scryed, FlCl, Excel Saga, and I recently started Ai Yori Aoshi. (That last one is most enjoyable if you pretend you're playing a drinking game while watching.) I suppose none of them are martial arts focused, so maybe that's why I still haven't seen one of those trendy attacks.

I don't think I've seen too many in anime, but I've seen plenty of spells like that in fantasy RPGs.
MARTIN: What?
DANIEL: Okay. One, that's Star Trek; and two, it's ridiculous.
MARTIN: What's wrong with it?
CARTER: "The singularity is about to explode?"
MARTIN: Yes.
CARTER: Everything about that statement is wrong.
DANIEL: How exactly is having weapons at maximum going to help the situation?
MARTIN: The audience isn't going to know the difference. They love: "weapons at maximum."
MITCHELL: Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment.
TEAL’C: I do not understand why everything in this script must inevitably explode.
MARTIN: Look, you guys may all know how things really work out there in the galaxy, but I know the film business. Explosions make great trailers. Simple fact. More explosions, better trailer. Better trailer, more viewers.

I have discovered that Death Note + Lucky Star = awsome.
Here's more proof.

Practically everyone in Naruto can clone themselves to some degree, though there isn't a colour change.

Chronos: The posing is a bit premature, but I like the color-split technique.

== Nov, 2008 ==

Crystal: I've seen "which one is the real one" multi-image techniques in various places, including Dragonball and Ranma 1/2, and in a variety of action video games (Mega Man 3 comes to mind). Also, splitting into many with different colors was seen in the Wotch.

You just reminded me of one of the arena battles in the second chapter of Dragon Warrior 4, some woolly thing that splits into four images, only one of which is real.

One of these days, I'd like to see a character/monster whose "which one is real" thing is a true shell game. (As in, none of them are; the spell also provides invisibility for the caster.)
