[S.T.O.R.Y. 2/13/02] Coat vs. Coat

Which is mightier, Elliot's Coat of Solitude, or Tedd's Winter Coat? On one hand, Elliot seems fairly certain that nothing can penetrate the coat of solitude. On the other, while Tedd's coat seems to do little to protect him from the cold it was able to protect even a pervert like him from a hammering. Clearly that is no ordinary coat.

I wonder if it's another gift from the DGB, like his glasses are?

I always assumed that Sarah was talking to Elliot, and was going to give him a hammering for bringing Tedd along in the first place.

Of course, it's possible I've been wrong all these years.

Obviously it is referring to Tedd's coat. As can plainly be seen here, the Coat of Solitude's otherwise formidable and impenetrable protection is overcome by Sarah. I am not certain how she is able to do this; it may be through knowledge of some unknown and barely conceivable weakness of the Coat itself, or alternately Sarah possesses latent or unsuspected magical abilities of great potency that Dan has yet to explain to us.

I find the latter possibility by far more likely. A weakness in the Coat itself just strikes me as too improbable to deserve true consideration.

So I get the impression that Chaos Priest is insane.

I'm new here, so I'm just trying to get my bearings. Yes, I am aware this is completely off subject.

How so? Sure, we're all mad here, but I'm still curious as to what prompted this particular accusation of insanity.

It just seems like you can come up with some amazingly random things...

It's not a bad thing really.

Welcome, Fellow rodent, to the EGS forums. It's true; we are all clinically insane here, but you'll find it lends a very amiable atmosphere to the discussions here. Well, mostly. Sometimes we foam at the mouth.

This may be madness, yet there be method in't.

*scratches head* Well, if somebody ever discovers a sane corner of the Internet, I'd like to hear about it, purely out of intellectual curiosity. I'd better not go there in person, though, sorta be contrary to the whole point of it.

I always thought Sarah referred to Elliot, here.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

...

Yeah, I'm not believing that either.

Sarah may have been slightly annoyed at Elliot being a bit oblivious, but Tedd was the one calling her a lesbian and he was the one wearing a thick winter coat. The Coat of Solitude looks more like a jacket really, but I guess Jacket of Solitude just doesn't have the same ring to it.

It could be the Winter coat of hammerproofing... That would Definitely make it more powerful ^_^

I bet Sarah's just averse to getting blood on a nice coat, even if it's someone else's.

I agree, and in addition to this welcome I would like to add a warning:

Stay away from Dan's bagels.

You know, though in "story time" very little time has passed (a matter of weeks, I believe). Nevertheless, there have been changes in the characters, both in their mannerisms and in their visual portrayal, that makes them look like they've advanced from freshman to junior year over the course of those weeks. They've gotten bigger and more mature looking, and their heads are no longer too big for their bodies. Things like the "coat of solitude" have the feeling of junior-high holdovers that gradually disappear as freshmen turn into sophomores, and beyond. Elliot and Sarah currently appear to have been together significantly longer than the comic time line would suggest.

It's like the Simpsons, except the microcosm isn't spatial, but temporal. (By that, I refer to the fact that the Simpsons are within a few hours drive of any feature that might be found somewhere in America.)

== Spring, 2006 ==

Chronos: Coat of Solitude?! Oo-kaay... Obviously based on Supes' Fortress of Solitude, but far more strange.

Also, I agree with Sarah - anything but chick flicks. *shiver*

== September, 2008 ==

Crystal: Sarah's dislike of chick-flicks and defense of defying stereotypes is nice, but is a little surprising considering how "unremarkable" she's normally portrayed as. (Considering that it's remarkable to not follow stereotype, I mean.)

Also,

Except, I'm not really mad - I just pretend to be. :shifty:

...Which reminds me, I should go back in time and remind myself of a few hours ago to take her meds...

*Vanishes in a flash of blue light.*
