Your bog-standard beer(s) come in at the 4.5 - 5.0% marks. Light is anywhere up to about 2.5% (I think), and premium/fancy beers can go up to about 13-14% (the really good stuff).
Anything above that (I think) is considered 'barley wine' rather than beer because of the alcohol content.
Beer 13-14%!?!? What the hell... never seen beer as that high.
If it's over 10%, it's usually goes out from beer category.
Everything over that in here is called as Sahti. (Thou it's own made.)
Grandridge brewery's 'Supershine' beer is 12%, and that's a locally (read: Australian) brewed one. They've won more awards for their beer than I'd care to shake a stick at.
Then there's (Carlsberg?) Elephant beer, that's 9%
