I suspect that Gabe has just gone for a week away etc. and they decided to turn it into a bit of a joke. It's all a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Also, the middle panel in the latest comic "I slept with a bird and now I have the avian flu." (from memory) is pure class.

I read Tycho's news three times a week, if for no other reason than to learn a few words. Their individual comics were awsome, but I must say the familiar drawings in Gabe's wins my heart. Plus the last panel in that one is perfection.
