YES! AWSOME! I was afraid that the panel would be on the weekend. That would've sucked.

Who will be on the panel?

Well let's see. As I recall there were 7 people on the panel last year, so I'll name 7 people.

Chris Crosby
Darren "Gav" Bleuel
Steve Troop
Maritza Campos (if available, and god willing she will be)
Aaron Farber
Dave Kelly
David Willis

That seems like a pretty impressive line up to me. I'd also list Paul Southworth but I don't think he's going.

I would love to be on the panel again this year (it'll be an interesting contrast to see a non-depressed Steve Troop on the panel), but I'll totally understand if the spot would better be served by having someone else on the panel.

I still have my place setting from last year, though, so I can always jump on as an alternate. ;)

Actually, I just thought up of a way to be at the convention virtually.

For me, I need a cheap camera I can plug into my vidcap card, and maybe a pair of microphones.

For the guys there, a computer able to run RealPlayer and RealSystem (read: Linux system). The RealSystem Producer (free version) will hook up with a webcam and audio so I know who's there and what's being said, while projecting the KeenSpot logo and me onto a screen.

Just think: Cheap Remote conferencing!

Chris,

The date's already in my Palm. ;) As always, I'll happily be on the panel, but since I was on it last year, feel free to give someone else a chance at my spot. Also, Zeus the GPF Laptop will be coming with me again, so if you want to put together some sort of multimedia slideshow, we can. I just need the files a few days in advance...

I wanna go!

Postby Maritza Campos on Wed May 22, 2002 8:38 pm

:o

You know? A plane ticket from here to there costs around 700 bucks... whoa nelly!

But I'm starting to look into stuff. I'm positively almost there.

Yow. How far are you from San Diego, anyway, Maritza? About a thousand miles? Is it drivable? I once drove from here to Denver in one 24 hour stretch, stopping only for gas. Took 3 liters of Mountain Dew, but it worked.

Woah, I just looked up Merida. You really are far out on the Yucatan there, aren't you? That doesn't look like a pleasant drive.

Is it an international thang? Can you fly to Tijuanna cheaper? Maybe someone could drive down and get you. :)

Well...

Postby Maritza Campos on Wed May 29, 2002 7:18 pm

The road trip from here to Mexico City lasts 24 hours itself. And the north of the country is verra dangerous by road... and apparently killing women in Ciudad Juarez is the new sport (236 so far) :o The thing is, my husband is not coming with me because his new job won't allow him to take vacations yet. I discussed the possibility with him and he said nyet.

Anyway, apparently I can get a better rate if I make the jump to Cancun first.

I'm really looking forward to meeting all you guys :)

Since her husband's not going and she (last time I checked) can't drive I don't think we have to worry about her going anywhere near that area.

I've heard of what Maritza's speaking of, I watched 'true crime' report on it. Going by what the story said young women, with no choice, walk through the desert at night alone to get from home to school to work.

Don't worry, guys :)

Postby Maritza Campos on Sat Jun 01, 2002 7:39 pm

As I said, my husband said "nyet" to the road travel. I'll go through safer routes.

On a related note, where is the san diego comic con site? Is this it?

http://www.comic-con.org/

Everytime I've tried to access it it leads to a blank page. I wanted a pro pass.

That's the site, and it's working for me. Not sure what the problem might be.

Check the mail from the private Keen mailing list, Maritza. Chris sent a copy of the pro reg form there. The deadline's July 12 so you might want to get crackin'!

So, is there a list or schedule of which 'Spotters will be in the booth at what time yet? :D

Yeah, attached as a jpg, of all things! What's up with that, Mr. Crosby? Of all the possible forms you could have chosen for a black&white form, you picked jpg? And from a Keenspot partner that went png before me!
