So I had this freakin' weird dream last night in which someone was imprisoned by means of "a necklace made of lies" which was hung about her neck. Symbolism aside, it's been driving me crazy all morning, and I figure this would be the best place to ask: what the heck does a necklace made of lies look like?
------------------

Hmmmmm. The expression "string of lies" comes to mind, but lies tend to form chains. They are a great burden, and each needs to link to the ones before.
Also, once a chain of lies has been forged, the teller is bound by them, and cannot reveal the truth without risking all that has been gained through the lies.
So, picture perhaps a person with an albatross about her neck (not the bird, but the original meaning of this phrase).

So what does an albatross around the neck look like? I'm fishing for visuals here.
------------------

How about a tarnished silver chain, probably fairly snug around the neck-- looking something like a choke chain would.

A necklace of lies should look like a garland of very pretty flowers (like violets or pansies) that have wicked, barbed thorns that you can't see until you look real close -- and most people don't notice until they've put on the necklace and the thorns are snagged in their neck.
-The Gneech

.....I'll go for a noose made of frayed steel cable. Too strong to break, very prickly to touch or to wear and supremely difficult to remove without permanent damage to the fingers and the throat.
------------------

Excellent...
In case anyone is wondering, in the dream I had that started this whole mess, I never saw the necklace. However, the mental picture I got of it after awakening was oddly distinct. The lies were glistening, distorted pearls, each about the size of a ping pong ball, but elongated, sort of ovoid, spaced evenly along a finely-wrought brass chain, each link about half an inch wide. In my dream, the one who wore it hadn't made it; it was made to imprison her. It could only be broken by finding and returning three dreams that the necklace had taken from its wearer. I never found out if that meant actual, while-you-sleep dreams or hopes and ambitions kind of dreams, because I woke up before I found the first one.
That was a really weird dream.
------------------
