Hey there...
I've been a reader of It's Walky for quite a while...loved Roomies too.
Quick question: Is SEMME supposed to be a secret organization? I thought it's existence wasn't supposed to be made known publicly, correct?
If I'm wrong, oh well. But I couldn't help noticing in the recent Sunday comic that for a secret organization SEMME sure has a huge sign labeling the organization on the front of its headquarters.
Is this strange?

IIRC, SEMME poses as a munitions contractor of some stripe. Perhaps they picked up the license for the Truncheon bomber, late of YoYoDyne Propulsion Systems?
-HX

Hmm....good point. If nobody knew what it meant, then it wouldn't be a problem. People who have never heard of SEMME to begin with wouldn't get it at all...
Then again, if you happen to be a 3-foot alien head honcho with a vendetta, finding a building with a huge identifying sign on it is quite convenient.
Of course, the real reason that sign is there, in my guess, would be so that the readers of the strip know that the Monkey Master is really attacking SEMME headquarters, as opposed to just the local 10-story Banana Republic. Given that they failed to make the connection with the previous strip about the security breach.
<grin>

I know what SEMME must mean
Let's go back to the time it was called SEMY.
SEMY, I figured out.
I may be wrong.
Society of Extraterrestrial Military Youths.
Oh wait....but that would be implying SEMY are a buch of aliens.
SEMME:
Society of Extinguishing Malevolent Militaristic Extraterrestrials.
Or maybe not.....Oh God, Walky, tell us please.......

First, I think the irony of the situation is funny (about the huge sign... that's the point, I think). And second, I'm curious as to the meaning of SEMME, but we can't even be sure that David has a meaning to it himself (of course he could tell us). Come to think of it, it's even more ironic that the building is so easy to see, yet it has a name that nobody seems to be able to decipher. Maybe that's the last shred of secrecy- who'd know it was a government organization?
By the way David, ever thought about having political cameos? Dubya might've chosen some of the latest workforce, explaining their sudden rise in intelligence. While of course, Alex could have a deathmatch with Gore because Gore invented the internet! Yes... let's make fun of all the latest political figures!
------------------

I've thought about using Dubbya in a few
strips, but I've been busy with my
own characters for the while. Though,
he's the President, and I'm sure I'll
eventually use him SOMEWHERE in the next
four-eight years. He's Commander-in-Chief,
after all. And funny! Hee hee.
And, no, I don't know what SEMME means.
(Here's a nice bit -- In last Sunday,
I accidentally wrote SEMY on the front
of the building, and didn't notice until
it was half-colored. ...so I had to
badly fit in Photoshop text in the spot.
Eep!)
--David

As an example, the research organization run by aliens in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics (original Eastman & Laird version), TCRI, had a big sign on the building. That's how the turtles found it--and they only knew it was important because the canister of mutagen that transformed them had "TCRI" written on the side.
------------------

Yes.
Scientist Baxter Stockman was actually black.
Why they changed that for the animation, I don't know.

Walky, never EVER EVER EVER use political figures in your comic. I like your comic because it is both funny, random, and does not involve as many of the things that most comics involve(though it does have it's fair share of the usual stuff ).
Most importantly, it has a minimum of politician gags. It hasn't mentioned "chads" or Florida once. I love you for this Walky. Don't change. Please don't change.
------------------
