Dave (from CRFH) should be inducted into the OKJ

The noble Order of the Knights of Jubal traces its origins back to the Year Two Thousand A.D., when a group of distinguished persons of good and true character, founded the order to promote chivalry and honour. The order takes its name from our leader, Alexander Jubal McRae, who on two (so far) occasions has been seriously injured, in one case fatally, defending an innocent woman from attackers.

If y'all have been reading the current storyline over at CRFH,
we can witness how he's battling the Devil him/itself to save his ladylove, Margaret.

Perhaps we should poll the cartoonists of Keenspot, which I will do, and see what we come up with.

I know that Dave is a (fairly) brave soul, especially when it comes to matters of love. In that respect he is much like Jubal.
Unfortunately Dave is not eligible. This dilemma has already been addressed during the birth of Eqvites Ivbalis. Should we induct fictional characters? The consensus was that we would not include fictional characters in EI. The reasons being that it may not be taken as seriously w/ a list of fictional heroes. Also, who would be eligible? As brave and noble as Jubal, Dave and other on-line comic characters may be, how do they stack up to the hundreds of other fictional, historical and mythic heroes all over the world and throughout history? The list would run into the thousands. However, the main reason we excluded fictional characters is because Eqvites Ivbalis represents the chivalry that still exists in the real world. Jubal is merely a symbol of that chivalry and EI is simply a way to recognize that chivalry and explore it.
I personally applaud Dave and his quest for the love of (That gun nut ) Margaret and the sacrifice he may make for that quest. In fact, I hope he wins in the end.
All this said I will make this aside. The Order of Jubal is very young. Perhaps as it grows we will explore the deeds of the fictional characters in some shape or form. Only time will tell.
Thank you and take care,
PIQE
Jamie
------------------

The "examples of Chivalry" page on the EI website is a good idea, but I have a few reservations about putting up cartoon characters (aside from Jubal, of course) on it.
Some of my reservations are:

It is possible that some unscrupulous comic strip artists may deliberately put in a chivalrous act (which might be quite out of character for the strip) in order to get a free plug and a link. (I'm sorry if this offends anyone - I'm not thinking of anyone in particular.)

Comic strips do not often accurately portray reality. It's very noble for Dave to go down to Hell and battle the devil, but how realistic is it. Unless it is likely to give a realistic portrait of modern chivalry, it's not (very) much use.

The actions have to be read in the context of the character performing them. As I don't read all that many web comics, I'm not familiar with the characters in it, so it relies on others reporting the deed to me and telling me whether it is in character or not.

Lastly, of course, I'm not sure that Dave's actions in CRFH are worthy of membership. SUre, he saved Margaret, but I hardly think that's a good deed.
We in the Order of Jubal haven't forgotten who it was that shot Jubal in the first place...
Regards,
Sir Greg
------------------

PhoenixPaw.
I suggest that you head over to the CRFH Code page at
http://www.crfh.net/funcrfhcode.html
and find out exactly what its all about. If some of the references don't make sense, t just means that you have to read the archives.
