When i did the color on the first strip where Maladict appeared, I wanted very badly to say something. He's been away for a very long time, and I'm glad to see hi return. He's one of my faves.

It's interesting to see Maledict as a sort of recurring antagonist (does he count as a "villain" if he's just working for whoever will pay the most?).

My (very faded) memories of trying to read Cathy as a child (before it dropped out of the local papers) seem to be divided between a) wondering what the heck was so great about binge shopping (I still don't get it), b) wondering why she shopped so much when every fourth comic seemed to be about her worrying over stacks of bills, and c) wondering if the balding guy was a friend or a verbal punching bag (I don

I don't remember much about Cathy, but from what I recall, I believe Cathy tried to be to comic strips what "Sex and the City" was to television.

Both were such insipid crap that they were mind bending.

Cathy was an extremely one-dimensional strip, just as today's (3 April) shows. I was happy when my newspaper removed it.

yeah - for someone who is supposed to be an independant career woman, she's extremely depressing.

Silly me... I had completely forgotten about the endless cycle of eating/weighing/dieting. A woman of excess, to be sure. You'd think she would be used to encourage independent career women, especially considering the evolving times.

I really was wondering what Cathy Guisewite was thinking when she created such a one-dimensional character. I know part of the problem is the syndicate (just look at Garfield... it was much better 30 years ago), but man... one can only take so much!

Reminds me of the Scandinavian elf-women, pretty at the front and hollow at the back. I'm pretty sure they have noses, though.

And those, in turn, remind me of Sunbonnet Sue. (Can't help it... my mom's a quilter)

I'm going to go ahead and revive this thread for today's comic (although a revival of the Garfield Newfoundlander strips might have been apropos :smug: )

Anyway... I'm going to vote for 'BOTH'! :D

In similar news, has anyone else in the US gotten the card from the United States Postal Service in their mail, which features a Cathy strip? :shifty: Freaky timing.

And hey, with the loss of the heart comes a resolution! Of sorts... :)

I guess I haven't been looking closely enough at the junk mail... oh, well.

It still seemed like a nice coincidence that it came on that particular day. :) On the other hand, Cathy is alive and kicking, and just as neurotic and self-centered as ever... :-|
